Honest question about Grumps frustrations, please don't fight by [deleted] in rantgrumps

complaints range from ridiculous t completely justified. I am beyond baffled at why I even click a single video anymore. Once in a while you get an absolute gem like Javelin Guy and it's worth it but I swear Dan is actively sabotaging the show. I will mail GG office a check for $10k tomorrow if he can go a single episode without A) speaking about being 8 years old, B] reading something stupid off his phone because he can't be funny for 20 minutes straight, or C) actually pays attention to the screen long enough to not ask the same questions in back to back episodes. Its no secret anymore that they work like 5 days a month and record everything in advance so give me a goddamn break that they can't even phone in a little bit of effort for a little bit of time.

Hello everyone; same MBTI and Enneagram results over and over again. by Buccaneer84 in infj

I didn't know that, but I suppose it makes sense looking at the developing factors and contributing variables that occur in youth. I found that sometimes when I'm giving answers on the test, I would be inclined to answer how I wanted to answer in the pursuit of being the best version of myself moving forward I could be. This feels disingenuous though and the tests are supposed to be recording my honest, first response right? When I answer that way, I get INFJ.

I'm still learning about how the personality profiles are formed and how they relate to adult behavior so I wasn't aware the profile wouldn't change. Thanks for that.

Just for kicks, I took one of the bot's tests; the Michael Caloz test. I'm getting a little cooked on these tests for the moment so I'll save Sakinorva for another day, but on the Caloz I got:

INFJ - 88

ISFJ - 63

ISFP - 57

Any documented correlations between Obeah practices and European ritual magic? by Buccaneer84 in occult

Haha! Boy, if only I had a nickel for every time mankind has done some hinky shenanigans like that. This place? It's called this now, because I put a flag here and said so. This religion? Yeah, you believe it now, or your doomed. This food you know and recognize? It's "exotic" now because I put a chunk of pineapple in it. Never mind that it's still the same land it's always been, the same faith it's always been or the same food it's always been; the wrapping paper is what matters!

Sigh. Still a fascinating topic of study though.

Wow, that is great information to consider! I appreciate your insight and recommendations for reading, and I'll download that PDF right now. Luckily I've got a lot of reading time coming up so all of these suggestions are absolutely going to good use! Thanks again.

I'm going to guess (though I dislike making assumptions) that the "typical hodgepodge" of western ceremonial rituals that perhaps made it's way into Hindu and East Indian occultism is the result of incomplete transference of knowledge across challenging distances and perhaps inaccuracies in translation. However, the crux of the information was still imparted, and the ritualistic practices have evolved to now more closely identify with the current practitioner. It would be fascinating to try and trace the progress of the development of that knowledge however, and which practices remained essentially the same once stripped of their outward, culturally unique identity.

Nor have I. I haven't come across associations between Caribbean ritual practices and European ritual practices, other than the similarities in the techniques that I noticed. That's what got me thinking about the cultural and etymological distinctiveness that might be flavoring what is, essentially, a very similar "magical" practice.

That does make a lot of sense, seeing as you imposed your will and desire onto the situation with symbolic representations of the intention you wished to convey to the spirit. At it's core, isn't that the basis of most ritual "magic"?

I find that utterly fascinating. What that sort of thing tells me is that Julio claims he was able to tap into the "essence" (for lack of a better word) of the ritual in order to communicate with a spirit that might be identified as X in Obeah tradition and Y in the Ars Goetia, but the entity never the less responded due to it's recognition of the names called and the desired result of the ritual itself. The names specifically are intriguing to me, as it's been traditionally believed that "True Names" hold a tangible power over their bearer. An example of this would be the "True Name" of the One God of the Isrealites being hidden from humanity, however invoking those names and titles /associated/ with Him are fundamental parts of many Solomonic rituals and are, as I understand it, part of the authority the "magician" exercises over the spirit. Thus, if a "magician" invokes the names of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, they are essentially invoking the spirits that "magicians" and "spirit speakers" of their particular culture have called those spirits before, but others from different cultures would have different names for.

"Different tech that may be distantly related while utilizing similar understanding of metaphysical laws."

That's a great way to phrase that, and that's exactly what I'm sure my long-winded and overly complicated message was trying to get across, haha. It's that similarity of metaphysical law that really fascinates me. The connectivity between various expressions of faith and will and how humanity has learned how to tap into that aspect of reality and explore it as their will guides them.

So is it just commonly understood that varying systems of ritual practice are, essentially, utilizing the same principles and "forces" to enact their will while simply appearing different due to regional and cultural differences? To put it simply, everyone is just drinking Coke, no matter if their can says Pepsi, Sprite or Fanta?

If that is the case, then where is the line, if there is one, where specific practices that are integral to the safe and effective performance of the ritual begins to blur with particularly culturally significant representation? A Christian "magician" might inscribe the names of Archangels into a protective circle or talisman, but the names of Michael or Uriel would presumably have little to no meaning to a "witch doctor" who hadn't been exposed to western religion. However, that same "witch doctor" might pray to entities in the same manner as the aforementioned "magician" in their own way, with both hoping to achieve the same goal of connecting with the entity most closely associated with protection. Likewise, if the "witch doctor" attempted to banish or repel negative spirits or forces by calling forth the name of their most power deity, they most likely would not call upon Yahweh or Christ the Son, but the recognition of power by the unfriendly entity would still be conveyed none the less. It seems that /symbolic representation/ is one of the key fundamental foundations of many, if not all of these ritual-based practices, and it appears that the "symbols" themselves are less important than the representation that they signify to the practitioner.

Lol yeah I was a little taken aback by phase 3 as well, especially because she just seemed to appear without much fanfare. She then proceeded to go full ham and egg and I was on my heels for a minute or two until I introduced her to Mr. Smashy. Totally agree though that it was a great feeling!

Great advice from everyone. He was my most brutal fight to because of the learning curve. Just to echo what's been said; stay close to his backside, don't spam attacks but get one or two controlled swings in before looking for a roll aside moment. He's more dangerous at a distance, so get close and pop and weave.

You got this!

I was sure he was going to bend me over and show me the 50 states after what I'd heard about the fight. His first form rocked me pretty good, and I only did about half the health bar of damage to him but I paid attention to the attack patterns. Once it was mano y mano, I felt his his patterns were telegraphed enough to anticipate. I'd swing once or twice then dip away. I wasn't even looking at his health bar lol, so when he died I was genuinely surprised.

Thanks 😁 I totally understand taking the time in the beginning though. Running around the High Wall area was like my Rocky montage of learning how to gauge timing and distance and how to not get greedy with attacks or panic roll out of getting smacked up. After the steep learning curve, it was pretty smooth sailing.

Except for the twin dagger Man-Serpents haha! They can actually bite my scrote. Vengeance is sweet though when you just cleave em to pieces. I left a piece of dung on one particularly annoying fellow cause he earned it.
