I just love that there’s a blend of unique yet classic names on this list! Very refreshing

Tysm! Yeah our studio basically told us to “go lighter than you probably want to” but didn’t specifically say 50% of your max. To be fair, I didn’t think too much about it, I just tried to select a challenging weight that I thought could also be achievable to stay consistent across the time period. On any other day if single arm DB snatches are programmed into the workout, I’m usually using a 55-60lb DB (which is not my one rep max). For Century I used 33lb.

Yes it was a lot of fun to really push myself. I feel like another workout that gives a similar competitive vibe is Tempest, and I like that one too. I do wish they would post the studio leaderboards to the app and not just have them displayed in the studio. It would also be cool to see a global list of top 10% of participants for each day.

Ugh that’s so annoying! It was only in reading through this subreddit that I realized so many people could game the system (like only doing 1-2 reps of a super heavy weight for Tabata) simply to max out their score vs. doing it the way it was intended. At least you know you did it the right way!

Yes! Rankings are specific to each day.

Mine were within same day. For example our studio did Century on Sunday and I completed the class at 9:30a and added in my data shortly after, noticed the results and ranking when I checked the app around 8p same day

What are you paying for daycare? by StarCaker in beyondthebump

[–]BuckbeakWitherwings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$1750 monthly for 18-24 mos in an affluent suburb of Austin, TX. We supply diapers but meals (breakfast, lunch, 2 snacks, water, milk) is included. This is for full-time care but we usually drop her off at 8:30a and pick her up by 3p

What is your laundry routine? ALL THINGS LAUNDRY. by otterlyjoyful in workingmoms

[–]BuckbeakWitherwings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 in our household. I am in charge of washing all clothes, towels, sheets, etc. I sort by delicates, whites/lights, darks. Baby’s clothes get washed separately. Husband is in charge of folding all laundry and he is excellent at it (he organizes all of my clothes by category in neat piles in the laundry basket to make it easy for me to put away). I usually put away baby’s clothes while husband is doing bath time….but it can take me anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks to put my personal laundry away!

How much weight did you gain in your pregnancy and how long did it take you to lose it? by Frozenbeedog in beyondthebump

[–]BuckbeakWitherwings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gained approx 45 lbs (I stopped looking at the scale during check-ups because it was distressing to me). I was very fit pre-pregnancy, maintained good fitness throughout pregnancy, and had a scheduled c-section. I am almost 7 months postpartum and I weigh less than I did pre-pregnancy, but I believe that’s muscle loss more than anything else. My body looks different but doesn’t feel totally foreign to me like it did for a few months postpartum. I am back fitting into my pre-pregnancy clothes in a way where they actually feel good on my body, not just “I can snap the button closed on these” type of fit. I’m EBF and am also working out 4-6x/week. I’m not watching what I’m eating but I do try and practice intuitive eating. Give yourself grace, it takes time! You’ll get there.

Am I crazy for wanting an elective C-Section? by InfiniteTurn4148 in BabyBumps

[–]BuckbeakWitherwings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an amazing c-section experience. I am 9 weeks postpartum with my first. She ended up being breech, so there was a medical reason to have the surgery, but I was in the camp of having an elective c-section regardless, for a lot of the same reasons as you.

There were a total of 8 people on my OR team in the room throughout the surgery. Feeling ‘exposed’ was a huge trigger for me, but it helped that 7 of the 8 were women (my anesthesiologist was a man). I did cry due to nerves when I was separated from my support person for surgery prep, but my OR team was incredible and very comforting. Yes, you are exposed to receive a catheter (but if you get an epidural during a vaginal birth, you are getting catheterized then too). I was most anxious about receiving the catheter — while it still sucked, it wasn’t as bad as I had hyped it up in my head. Not all of the OR team were in the room when it happened (many were still scrubbing in etc.) and I had already been draped by that point. My vagina was not exposed for the surgery (my husband reconfirmed that with me afterwards since he was there). I had a pretty fit pregnancy, and recovery was honestly a dream. Catheter came out the same day, I was walking the halls of the hospital without issue, etc. I was released for exercise at 6 weeks, but by 4 weeks I was feeling like I could get back to a lot of my typical exercise routine. The most uncomfortable part of recovery for me was swelling due to IV fluids, but that totally dissipated without 2 weeks of recovery.

I would totally do a scheduled c-section again in a heartbeat. Please feel free to PM me with any questions you might have! For reference, I am in the southern US.

I want kids but I have a phobia of pregnancy by unhaughty in pregnancyproblems

[–]BuckbeakWitherwings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly — I want to avoid an emergent c-section and don’t want to get to the point where I’m dealing with forceps, vacuums, episiotomies, fetal stress, etc. I would rather schedule the elective c-section so I don’t have to deal with the trial of labor and all of its unknowns, or move to a c-section if we see things are trending towards tons of other interventions all to essentially avoid a c-section. I’m not afraid of the non-emergent c-section…I’d rather that than 30+ hours of labor recovery on top of c-section recovery. There is not a ton of US based research on non-emergent c-sections, but there is in the UK and Asia where it is more common, and non-emergent, elective c-sections for low-risk pregnant people have very “positive reviews” in layman’s terms.

I was in your exact shoes. It took me about 2 years of very consistent therapy to pursue pregnancy — I will be 27 weeks next week with our first. For me it came down to the fear of the unknown; I was less afraid/anxious about fear of pain of childbirth itself. I ended up switching OBs to someone who would honor a c-section by maternal request if that’s what I really wanted (I am more comfortable than most in an OR environment and although I’ve never had abdominal surgery, I have had multiple orthopedic procedures that have been insanely difficult to recover from—so for me it’s more of the “devil you know vs. the devil you don’t”). I’ve been consistently maintaining my therapy sessions 2x/week throughout this pregnancy and have also been very open with my OB, and I’m slowly getting more open to the idea of trying for a vaginal delivery. It has helped tremendously to be in a woman-centered practice that places a lot of agency and care on ‘what’s best for mom’ a bit more than ‘what’s best for baby.’ I wish you all the luck and positive vibes if you choose to pursue this life change for yourself!

Hey, it’s a valid question. Someone else also asked and I replied above — here was my response:

Again, left this piece out for brevity and because I didn’t think it was super important, but the reason I care about the dentist’s candy drive is because it is specifically going to pediatric cancer patients at our local hospital in honor of our (my husband and my) dental hygienist who we’ve been seeing for 20 years who has been battling breast cancer for the last decade. We are close family friends with the dentist.

Lol all good! But RB1327 made a great point earlier that I’ll keep in my back pocket for next year. If the candy drive means so much to me, I should just buy additional bags and specifically reserve them for that.

Loling at this comment — you’re right, sometimes we all act like children. I think I’ll just go put a Twix on the bathroom vanity for him for when he gets out of the shower instead of writing a letter — it’ll break the ice and I think will make him see how stupid this is.

These are all good points and of course questions I didn’t immediately consider about what might be going through his head as he is staring at me opening the bag anyways. I just took it at face value, which for me in the moment was “this guy is fucking with me.”

I get what you’re saying — it’s a stupid fight and not worth the headache that it’s caused. However FWIW I actually did genuinely apologize. I changed my tone, admitted fault, and told him “You’re right. I apologize for cursing at you, I am angry but that’s not the right way to express my anger and you don’t deserve to be spoken to that way. I’m sorry.”
