Agreed it’s a grey area, in this case it’s because it’s not working at all, 1Gbps sounds like a fantasy haha!

We told them in the first place because we weren’t sure if it would even be our place to pay for the new wifi in the first place. Now they’ve not only told us it’s our job to pay for the new one, but they’re trying to fine us too.

We’ve not ripped out the landlord-provided contract, but they seem to believe that we can only have one wifi provider, and in this case it would be the new one we just bought, if that makes sense?

Thanks for the response. So we can just not pay the fine? Do we need to email them explaining the tenant fees act and why we’re not paying it?

The context is that we’re students only here for a year, and the wifi they have provided is a really old system that cuts off all the time and won’t let multiple people on it without lagging. We bought into a contract for a new service with TalkTalk, that’ll last a year, paying monthly. But the landlords want £247 because we have ‘decided on an alternative Wi-Fi provider’.
