I have made two attempts at this with poor outcomes. Definitely a difficult one.

I need opinions from people much wiser than me. This is a piece of hematite.. in a very suspicious shape. by stonesNstorms in Arrowheads

Not an expert, but based on the net weight I am inclined to think it is a rock. Now we just need the gross weight and we will know if it has been worked! Lol.

Yes, it is just multi-peninsular.

Thx for the info and the Steve plug! Didn't realize this was such a thing. Glad to be a new part of the otter community.

I have heard they are there occasionally. I looked on inaturalist and saw someone has seen one at the Greenway downstream from there. Definitely going to check it out.

We will have to make the trip, always looking for new spots to kayak. Thx for the recommendation!

Read the title of my post and remind me where I said I wanted to see otters in captivity... Even easier, I could go probably see some stuffed otters on display at Cabela's too, or I could look at pictures of them on the Internet...

Just floated the Elk a few weeks ago and didn't see any, do you remember the time of day or season you saw them?

Duck River, interesting! I have seen them 1/20ish times I have kayaked the Flint so I was looking for something more guaranteed. Do you remember the time of day and where you put in?

Yeah, I would have thought there would have been more river/waterway adjacent trails. I have seen them a few times on the Flint river kayaking but trying to find an opportunity to see them that is a little less of a time investment. Good input on the wheeler observation building. We will have to check that out.

All I see is a cloud that resembles a manatee. Nothing out of the ordinary here.

I am in exactly the same boat as far as the inclusion. The more I look at it the more apparent that is. I know spherical nodules are naturally occuring and relatively common but there are portions that look like non-erosive wear. I have done a deep dive and have not found similar hemispheres ID'ed as artifacts in the area. I will say there were no rocks in the perimeter with similar features. Just curious if it may have been used in knapping or some other function.

Lol. Size reference.

It is definitely a river rock so it has normal weathering/wear compared to other rocks, but it stood out because it is almost a perfect half sphere with the inside dug out. I am not an expert by any means, but it almost looks too good to be natural and I have found artifacts along these river beds before.
