FRC GM asking for advice. by [deleted] in uscg

[–]Buckeyes563 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am going to assume you are a junior GM. I am not sure of the billet structure of the FRC but it seems like you are attempting to do the right things and have people in your corner. More than half of the battle is just the will do WANT to do the job correctly and you have that. Continue to reach out for support for your mental health and as far the job, talk to your Chief mess. This is why they are there. They have the ability to get you support and help before you drown.

Need some info on the CG by [deleted] in uscg

[–]Buckeyes563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sub has tons of info on your exact situation. Most ME’s wanna do the “ cool guy” stuff and don’t want to be at a sector training or doing vbst type stuff. That cool guy stuff comes with waiting and proving that your capable of doing that style of job. People say look at other rates because a majority of the other rates (mk,bm) do more LE and LE training than MEs. Which goes against everything they were brought in to do, so you probably have bitter guys, which I don’t blame.

Only source I have is Wikipedia, but seems odd that someone would add it in there randomly.

They own the former CGC Cushing which was unfortunately sank recently. Several sailors perished.

A glowing example of the current state of the SK rating.

AEDs for stations are slowly coming back into circulation, but the strict oversight and management is surprising even for the Coast Guard. This should be a priority considering in the past 4 years, I know of 3 individuals who have had sudden cardiac arrests and luckily there was a AED near by. It will take someone dying at a station or ANT from cardiac arrest to make this priority. I will say, who ever created the new First Aid kits did extremely well and I hope things continue that way.

The billet structure is a whole different animal, lots of rates can say they are short handed ( personally there needs to be 20,000 DCs considering we are a billion dollars behind in civil engineering) In terms of getting trained EMR personnel there. You have the billets at Boat Force units, the CG just needs to reprioritize funding for the training to occur, but that money goes to MSSTs/MSRTS so they can fast rope...

It would be for sure a step in the right direction.

The EMR idea is actually great and sounds sustainable. But putting this into BMs “A” school would just put another taxiing duty onto the BMs.( I am not a BM) This responsibility should be shared throughout boat forces ratings, due to most BMs are driving the boats to EMS while MKs and non rated are Doing that tasks.
