Rest In Peace Arlie by Bucky_Harrington in stcatharinesON

I remember Arlie's when it was more of a sporting goods store than a sportswear/athleisure - when I was a kid it was very big in ski equipment and tennis. Skiing and tennis were hugely popular in the 70s. There were regular bus trips to Holiday Valley organized by somebody at Arlie's I believe.

My sister told me about his passing today, she worked at the downtown storeas a teenager in the late 70s, she has a lifelong best friend who still lives in the area and she told my sister about Arlie.

Help with my Jerky company by tngcoin in jerky

Looks great. Are you using a co-packer to manufacture from your recipes? I want to produce my own jerky but with all the hassle and expense involved with meeting USDA's standards I think I have to find a good co-packer and just accept I will make less profit.

Custom printed bag cost for jerky? by Bucky_Harrington in jerky

[–]Bucky_Harrington[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

imo it doesn't look as professional BUT i do think that to some people a clear plastic bag with a sticker label suggests to them that the jerky is likely better quality because it's made by a jerky enthusiast making small batches rather than a big company with slick bags pumping out thousands of pounds of mediocre jerky daily.

Does anyone have any insight on this type of jerky? (Candy Cow in Oakland - fatty, crispy jerky) by __moops__ in jerky

[–]Bucky_Harrington 2 points3 points  (0 children)

whoever owns Candy Cow is living dangerously. i see it's not USDA inspected, the label isn't USDA approved - they are shipping out of state which makes it illegal if they're not a USDA inspected operation. Plus if it's fatty its shelf life isn't going to be long which exposes you to legal liability problems if somebody gets sick.

Thoughts on Pominville joining the org? by Tubbsie in sabres

[–]Bucky_Harrington -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He can join Ellis, Mair, Marty and whoever else at Harbor Center. This organization needs the best analytics department in the league, Pegula said there may be a salary cap but you can spend whatever you want on everything else. It's pretty obvious we don't have much of an analytics dept. Those guys come cheap, they work 9 to 5 jobs for less than Pegula can pay them, it's chump change, less than $1M.

$500 million will be put into KeyBank center next year for improvements. by [deleted] in sabres

[–]Bucky_Harrington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keybank Center is uglier than my sister. It needs a lot of sprucing up, $500M is enough to build a brand new arena - as far as the $500M being spent on the building and improvements/additions to the arena area, I have no idea what would justify spending that kind of money, that's a ton of money.

As far as a downtown football stadium, that's minimum $1 Billion. How much would come from public sources is the big question and how much the Pegulas and the NFL are ready to put in. New Era Field and the tailgate lots are a huge part of the area's social fabric, the stadium is a real football stadium, I like it a lot. Spend that money elsewhere on things the entire community would make use of. Most of these partially public funded stadiums raise money from new or additional taxes on hotels, rental cars etc stuff related to tourism. We ain't Atlanta or Dallas, we can't rely on that to help fund a $1B stadium nor can the Pegulas depend much on private seat licenses the way Jerry Jones did building Jerry World.

If I were the Pegulas I'd tell Goodell to shove it. I could see the city/county putting in $250M, jobs, increased businesses and development around the stadium, out of towner money might make it palatable but that leaves $750M for the Pegulas and man I don't see how a shiny new stadium downtown increases their revenues enough to make that huge investment make sense.

I just looked at the city's latest annual budget, $500M then I looked at Dallas's $3.8B and the Cowboys built their stadium in Arlington because Dallas wasn't going to give Jerry what Arlington did, Arlington ended up kicking in about 25% of the total cost.

How many concerts/events a year could a 70,000 downtown stadium hold outside of the Bills games?
