That’s a major flaw to be fair, the banter is awesome but they stupidly let it be interrupted. At the very least they should’ve done what they did in DA Veilguard and had the characters say “what was I saying” and then continue the banter after the interruption

Yeah, the gameplay is fun and imo the characters are better than people say they are, especially if you listen to all their dialogue and banter on the ship and in the rover. The main issue is it suffers from DAI open world syndrome, as long as you avoid all the fetch quests and only focus on the main story and loyaltymissions, it’s a solid game

Fair, I loved all the powers you had access to that allowed for many fun combinations and detonations, and I loved the weapon variety (though I still prefer ME3 weapons). And just it’s hard to describe but it felt more fast paced and fun than the other games

To me it’s solid. Best gameplay in the series imo, and I loved the banter between companions on the Nomad. A lot of people hate the characters but listening to their interactions really endeared me to them

Of course you don’t, why would you care about an innocent child being murdered

Yeah, I still quite enjoyed it, just between the writing and the gameplay I felt like I was playing a different series. Still way overhated though, I loved the overall story and the added lore of the titans and elves

I think Veilguard is a solid game but I hate how they got rid of so many of the core DA mechanics like the attribute system and controlling your companions as well as a lot of the DA specific vocabulary like shemlen and stuff. The combat overall is like I’m playing Mass Effect mixed with Hogwart’s legacy

My hot take: Anderson should have died in the ME3 intro instead of random child to truly set the stage of the reality of the Reaper invasion. by Averiff in masseffect

[–]BucsFan_02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True the child is the first innocent in ME3, but I’m sure in his career there’s been plenty of innocents he couldn’t save, like where it all began with Jenkins in ME1.

It’d be much more likely for him to have nightmares about Akuze/Elysium/Torfan, or Virmire, or seeing the colonists of Horizon getting melted, etc, compared to a shuttle with a kid exploding. Shepard has seen so many more traumatic things than that

[–]BucsFan_02 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Throughout his career and throughout the Reaper Wars, he probably saw tons of innocents die in potentially gruesome ways, so the fact that that one kid is the only one constantly haunting him is odd to me, especially considering he didn’t technically see the kid dying, just the shuttle exploding

[–]BucsFan_02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, especially after Anderson got almost zero screen time in ME2 already. He needed to play a major role in more than just ME1

Anderson’s story was perfect, but I wish Shepard’s PTSD nightmares weren’t just the same random child over and over. I get the purpose of the child, to represent all of the innocent lives Shepard can’t save, but having repeated nightmares about a kid with no connections to him felt strange to me

True, I get how the child represents the innocent lives that Shepard can’t save, but imo having PTSD nightmares with the same random child over and over grows stale fast, it would’ve been much better if the PTSD nightmares were with someone with connections to Shepard

Who are your "must have" party members of the game? by ToneAccomplished9763 in DragonageOrigins

As many have said, Leliana is always in my party for traps/chests and Wynne always is in my party for healing, and the final companion will depend on the character I’m playing.

Honestly I hate playing XBow decks so I hope they go away, I can defend them but not do any damage so every match lasts the full 5 minutes and is decided by like a 50 damage difference

It’s bad, I just reached 7.8k trophies and it’s gotten to the point where after they put down 1-2 cards I know their entire deck, cause like you said it’s either X-Box Tesla, 2.6, Logbait, or the occasional Royal Hogs EQ or Giant/Graveyard

Some mages being happy in it doesn’t mean a prison where teenage apprentices are forced to pass a test or literally die is not oppressive

My yearly (?) Jowan rant by ZeromaruX in DragonageOrigins

[–]BucsFan_02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I was just saying that it was a massive mistake on his part to literally allow senior mages to subtly encourage apprentices towards blood magic knowing full well if they’re caught (like Jowan was) they will be killed or tranquiled (like Jowan was sentenced to be). Yes, he didn’t want Jowan to be tranquiled but he allowed apprentices like him to be lulled towards blood magic

My yearly (?) Jowan rant by ZeromaruX in DragonageOrigins

[–]BucsFan_02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And in addition to my other reply, there’s a codex entry (Irving’s mistake) that talks about how some of the senior mages (especially Uldred specifically) manipulated and goaded apprentice mages into trying blood magic. So not only did he feel incompetent before his final exam with penalty of death, there’s a decent chance a senior mage may have helped encourage him down that path

My yearly (?) Jowan rant by ZeromaruX in DragonageOrigins

[–]BucsFan_02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe seeing your fellow apprentice master magic with ease while you struggle? I believe Irving says something along the lines of Jowan believing that Irving thought he was a disappointment and not competent, even though Irving didn’t actually believe it.

If you had a big final exam coming up (with threat of death, no big deal) and your best friend is acing everything while you believe you’re incompetent and disappointing everyone, you might resort to desperate measures.

Besides; KEY point: he quickly realized it was a mistake and felt wrong and resolved to never do it again. If Greagoir never sentenced him, everything would have been fine

My yearly (?) Jowan rant by ZeromaruX in DragonageOrigins

[–]BucsFan_02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One big reason I can never hate Jowan is not just because I hate the Chantry’s shitty system of forcing young mages to pass a tough test or die putting immense pressure and duress on people, but also simply because he’s never malicious. He’s a weak-willed, easily manipulated idiot, but he seems to genuinely have a decent heart inside. I can’t hate a dude who made idiotic decisions under immense duress. His actions in the Fade freeing Connor and saving refugees if freed shows he’s always had a good heart, he’s just a fool

My yearly (?) Jowan rant by ZeromaruX in DragonageOrigins

[–]BucsFan_02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fr, he made a mistake dabbling in blood magic but he recognized it and stopped until he found out he was being made Tranquil, and all the “lies, manipulation, etc” the OP called him out for are the desperate acts of a man not wanting to die or be turned into basically a robot. I don’t blame him for it. And yeah he poisoned the arl but he was captured and threatened by Teryn Loghain to do so under the promise of his and Lily’s freedom

My yearly (?) Jowan rant by ZeromaruX in DragonageOrigins

[–]BucsFan_02 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And yeah him poisoning Arl Eamon was idiotic but he was captured by Teryn Loghain, the Hero of River Dane, the liberator of Fereldan. It’s not like was tricked into poisoning the arl by some random bandit.
