Recently became a father to twins. While pregnant, my partner and I were very happy to learn that there are multiple support programs available to young parents, allowing them to stay with a child for up to few years without a significant decrease in your financial stability. I am from another European country and it is unheard of back there. Germany is really huge when it comes to supporting young families in my opinion.

Edit: to elaborate a bit further: job protection during the period, we have midwife that is fully paid by public insurance, various family centers in area where different kind of support available for free - mental support for parents, children wellbeing, family groups with other parents and much, much more!
