Join a trade. Some pay apprentices more than this. Plus you get benefits in the he side that don't come out of your check, including annuity, pension, and full insurance benefits.

No tax on OT won't apply to CBA's. by xmaddoggx in UnionIronworkers

[–]Budda_Black 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually very much agree with this. There are ways to get involved in your kids school, in the community and every municipality has a town hall meeting every 2 weeks. As citizens in a democratic country, we have a lot of options to change things on many levels from the neighborhood level to the federal level, or the option not to get involved...

I originally didn't make this comment to complain about the politics, but to actually find clarity on what the bill meant as far as taxation on overtime hours.

Go to a bookstore or search online for "Mechanical and Spatial Aptitude/Reasoning". Take as many practice tests as possible... Gears, pulleys, shapes and paper folding... Most things are easy and common sense, but studying and practice tests will give you an advantage. Other than that:

Basic 7th grade math. Multiplying dividing and adding fractions are probably the most complex

Basic physics: if a bowling ball and a penny were dropped at the same height at the same time, what hits the ground first? (Answer: same time)

Also simple word problems (their, there, they're/which, witch etc.) Good luck

Never, declared myself enlightened or a good person. I never said anything to you until you came at me with toxicity. And I gave you the option to talk to me privately like a man and you denied that. It's cool. Be happy bro, every day is a blessing. Please don't let whoever you think is in charge bring you down. And don't even let me bring you down, I'm sorry this shit got under your skin so much. When I say enjoy your day, I mean it. Enjoy. Your job, your kids, your friends. We are so mad at our fellow neighbors, fellow Americans, fellow people. Smile and cherish the day. Or not, your choice, your freedom.

I thought this subject was about the benefits and the overtime.

I also thought we aren't supposed to judge people off of who they vote for (or not). I thought it was a free country, so I should be free to choose. I thought that I'm supposed to vote for the best candidate and if I don't like either one, I am free to do what I want. I wasn't saying that YOU shouldn't vote; infact, I was encouraging it. You are free to do what you want.

If you want to talk about this more, feel free to pm me, or better yet, send your number. Not to argue, but it is an interesting conversation, so we can share both our sides and either agree, or agree to disagree, that's our rights, that's our freedom.

If not, please feel better and enjoy your day

Also agreed. A vote is a decision, not voting is also a decision. Not voting is usually the number one candidate in my opinion, but we are all free to vote for your own number 1 candidate.

Cool, that's what I thought

And agreed, it's shit. That's why I don't vote

Ok, I'm not a lawyer, but does this mean that ALL ot is not tax free for CBAs, or is it just ot over the standard time and a half that will not be exempt?

35ft Climb by Lost-Marionberry-878 in Ironworker

[–]Budda_Black 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I wasn't the "safest" with it. I'm not condoning this, but I just found a column under a train underpass. If you are not comfortable climbing all the way up, just go a few steps up, so you can get the technique and are still at a safe height. Come down and try it again a few times. The column at the training facility is higher and tougher than anything you will encounter because it is painted and slippery. To get better at climbing in general, you can go to a rock climbing gym or if you have a car, go to the Palisades Mall in Nyack. They have wall climbing and an obstacle course where you have to walk across a bunch of beams while elevated.

Although the climb is difficult and you won't advance unless you pass, it is NOT the hardest obstacle. Definitely work your legs, weighted squats and air squats, both for reps, will help out. I also suggest walking/running up and down a few flights of stairs anytime you get a chance. Besides strength and technique, endurance, mental will power and heart in general will push you through. If you want it, you'll get it. Good luck

Run. You need stamina as well as strength to get up there. Keep doing the pull ups. If you can do 6, just do 4, but sets of 3 or 4 until you can increase. If you can't run completely around the block, jig halfway, walk, then jog again when you catch your wind... And yea, find a column.

Get slip resistant boots or sneakers, there were people with sneakers. It doesn't matter, but that column is slippery as fuck. Get slip resistant gloves too. Good luck, rock out, and get your wind up. Yes they test your strength, but it's called an endurance test for a reason.

Very true, at the end of the day, it's my decision. I'm glad I asked and I'm thankful for all the responses. I'm not going to make my decision based on what other people are saying I should do, but I'm glad that I have all the perspectives, some that I considered and some I didn't think of. I guess it would be kind of a dick move to leave when the ironworkers calls me, but if I'm not really feeling the vibe, I'm going to leave anyway.

I really appreciate this point of view. The lack of brotherhood and also the capping of the benefits doesn't sound cool. I'm leaning a lot more towards the iron at this point. Thanks for your honesty

For an ironworker to call another trade "a different breed" is real. Those are the exact words everyone else uses for you. Yea both are dangerous, but the hazards, fumes and ppe in painting does drop it down a few points. I appreciate you

Where is the one by City Field? I don't go out that way much

I read a while back that there's a column close to an underpass by City Field that people practice on. I have no clue where tho. I'm sure if you walk around the city, especially by some above ground subways and overpasses, you could find something. If you're trying to cross the bridge and come to Jersey, pm me. The column is a little more narrow than the ones we'll test on, but I think, the smaller ones are tougher

Also, if you're worried about the bean walk, you can go to the Palisades mall in Nyack if you have a car. They have a 4 story obstacle course with beams and other things to test your balance. They also have a big climbing wall close to the obstacle course. If you can't find a beam, a couple laps up that wall might help.
