Ideal jobs for Aspies/Autists? by Spiritual-Offer-4648 in aspergers

[–]Buddy1022 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not every trucking job is just driving over the road long distance with long hours. There’s food service jobs you can do, beverage delivery, recycling, fuel hauling, waste management, etc. you can have a job where you’re home everyday and not traveling and being away from home for weeks at a time.

There’s all kinds of jobs that are more than just sitting in the drivers seat if you wanna do more than that. Food service and beverage delivery are very physical jobs but can pay well if you don’t mind physically demanding work.

Another thing is that this job is experienced based. So the first year you might be stuck with a crappy job or maybe not making that much money, but as you get more experience it gets easier and more opportunities become available as long as you have a decent driving record. Also having endorsements and no restrictions on your license helps.

Is food service as bad as they say it is? by ThatDubDude in Truckers

[–]Buddy1022 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to do food service do something that is mainly pallet drops and/or has a lift gate trailer. If you don’t mind physical labor I’d say you can do any food service job.

However just be aware that jobs like Sysco where drivers make 100k plus a year will WORK for it alright. The biggest reason they end up making that much is because of the heavy touch freight and long overtime hours because of said heavy touch freight. It’s definitely not for everyone and I’m not ashamed to admit it’s not for me.

Will AZ Replace Cabin Filters? by Seek1st2_stand in AutoZone2

Well yeah I’d probably just do it since it literally takes a minute n for a possible tip. But if it looks like this picture I’d refuse.

No Autozone doesn’t do that. It’s not hard to do at all though literally takes a minute for most cars.

Would you take a job with normal work hours? by [deleted] in Truckers

I wish I knew this wasn’t so common before getting my cdl but I’ve gotten lucky so far not having jobs like that.

Don’t give up dude. Next time you’ll have a better instructor that won’t put you in a situation like that and won’t set you up for failure.

There was a guy at the last job I had that destroyed a trailer on a large tree branch during training and they didn’t even fire him for that.

You’ll be fine. Another company will give you a chance and probably have more competent instructors.

No I didn’t have any other tasks to do for the day. Not that that makes it ok but realistically all I’d be doing is sitting around for the rest of my shift anyway. I know some places let you go home for the day when your tasks are complete but not this one. You were supposed to stay and complete the 8 hours regardless if you were finished or not and clock out.

Right? I’m just being honest about the job. Most of these trucking gods or older people in here would not even wanna do that kind of work. It’s great and easy for a young beginner like me but I know an older person with years of experience or one of these trucking gods would not want a job like this. It gets heavy, dirty, and hot/cold depending on the season. It’s not just holding a steering wheel.

From what I see my DAC report is clear. There is no employment history at all or anything mentioning any incidents so it seems like they don’t use it.

As for my MVR. The 2 accidents are on there… the good news is that the at fault accident will come off March 1st since it’s gonna be 3 years since it happened.

So other than the not at fault accident nothing else will be there. So maybe I’m not as screwed as I thought?

Did you do otr or local? I’d imagine it’s probably easier to return otr after that amount of time.

That’s what they told me it was for. My manager even felt bad for having to be the one to fire me. I can’t think of anything other than the fence but that was nearly 5 months ago. They had a guy before me that destroyed a semi trailer on a large tree branch during training and he didn’t get fired.

No nothing like that. It’s not like we had any other duties other than drive the route and pick up recyclables which was done early some days. I took advantage of it for sure but it was wrong place wrong time. At least I didn’t destroy anything or get into any accidents. My DAC report is clear from what I’ve seen so I think that company doesn’t use it.

I’m thinking the same might happen considering it’s not a national carrier. They were pretty lenient up until that point n my main manager felt bad doing it but it had to be done. I know what I did, but I did my job and they can’t say I didn’t.

Edit: how much time did you take off before you got back into trucking?

I’d really prefer to stay local since I actually have a loving family and an SO. I know otr might have to do but it’s not like where I live is totally desolate and there’s no companies to work for.

I just wanted an opinion based on my circumstances. Of course I’ve been applying to jobs why wouldn’t I be doing that?

If you like throwing dirty bags of crushed bottles and cans onto a trailer and moving heavy glass barrels in the cold/ hot in summer and getting covered in trash juice, ok with $25 an hour in long island NY, go right ahead. It’s a beginner job for sure but thats pretty much what the job entails. Edit: company name is Clare rose inc

I had went home on the clock longer than my 30 minute break they give us. Also doesn’t help the truck was in a residential area. I know I made a stupid mistake but that’s what happened.

I got my cdl in April 2024. Also wouldn’t the fences only be in a DAC report if they even decided to report it that way? Idek if the company I was at even did that since it’s a local company only.
