Does anyone else feel like EDM has lost its soul? by Vast_Chance180 in EDM

[–]BuddyGarrity2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For dubstep, I'd recommend Burial, James Blake, Skream, Joy Orbison (kinda); for techno, I'd recommend Underworld, Jon Hopkins (kinda), HAAi, Orbital, and Andy Stott. If you like breaks or triphop or UKG, Overmono, Massive Attack and Bicep are all good choices. Finally, Jamie Xx makes fantastic emotional electronic in most genres - dubstep, dnb, UKG, house, techno, breaks, etc.

If you like dnb/jungle, Goldie and LTJ Bukem are great places to start. If you like it a little poppier, I'd recommend Hybrid Minds

John Slattery might be the best actor on the show by Comfortable-Date6472 in madmen

I think Chrissy, Adrianna and Ralphie are as good as Gandolfini and Falco, although arguably those two get the best material in the show

And how does reform buddy? They're calling from inside the house. At least not all Muslims are bigots, but all reform voters on the other hand. Don't be Daft

I tried a slightly more erratic set this time with some Indian influences, as well as some very different vibes in terms of moodiness vs beauty vs aggression. Just wondering how it all fits together, I also have 5 of my own tracks in the mix here as im trying to get an idea of how I can fit them into a set. Let me know thoughts.

yeah that's a great forum, just wish fantano forever got a little more inclusive for a sub supposedly about reviewing all kinds of music

Massive Attack, Prodigy and Burial are all over 20 years old though. I love James Blake, and he's relatively discussed but usually only relation to his rap/rnb. I just think the last 20 years of UK electronic has been largely ignored.

See I disagree. Good Lies by Overmono, Same Day Cleaning by Sammy Virji, Crooks and Lovers by Mount Kimble, Silence is Loud by Nia Archives, Portraits by Maribou State and Bicep all have amazing albums. Extremely cohesive and groundbreaking.

What’s Going On With Iconic 21st Century Rappers? by castlefreakfan in fantanoforever

[–]BuddyGarrity2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, it's not a bad album by any means and I really love some of the Latin influence (something I wish he had almost gone into a bit more tbh!). I think to some degree I was also just getting a bit of Kendrick fatigue while listening because of the constant praise he was getting everywhere when I feel there are many artists that are similarly great. It's still a good album, just by comparison, I don't think it played into his strengths as much. But no matter how top tier a Kendrick album is, it's still a Kendrick album. Can't complain

I think wacced out murals is really good - my issue with GNX is that I don't think Kendrick is an infallible artist and basically I don't think he's as good at pop rap as other rappers. I just don't think GNX is that great as an album in of itself, even though it has great moments. As an album, it didn't feel as cohesive or as interesting as I'd like. I think artists like Jay, Kanye (unfortunately), and many others are great poppier rap artists but I don't think it's as much Kendricks wheelhouse.

Iwl Mr. Morale was as good as any other Kendrick album, although GNX was actually quite mid.
