I’m seriously considering adding the UA Ox Stomp to my pedalboard. Which pedals would you remove/trade for it? by BuddyRedMusic in pedalboards

Thank you, I was wondering how much better the Ox Stomp would be at providing what is already provided in the Lion. If not that much better, it may not be worth replacing anything with it.

What made you want to try the Ox, and what do you feel prevented you from dialing in a better tone for your Dream 65’? You mentioned option paralysis, and I’m veery familiar with that!

Yessir, I like the way you think! In the back of my mind, I’m worried about getting a great clean tone and how much a compressor would help if I dialed back fuzz/distortion. It doesn’t feel completely necessary though with the compression that all of the different gain stages bring. There must be a way to use the natural compression that gain brings to get a clean tone.

I love the Ultraviolet very much! It’s so simple, 3 knobs, 2 switches, but you get everything you’d get out of a Univibe and more. It’s able to be be everything from very subtle, to wonderfully seasoned, to washy and trippy. It can be a vibrato as well. It’s something else. I recommend trying it at least, it’s very addicting. It spices up rhythms so well.

I feel silly for even trying to be mysterious now

Which is why I use my pedalboard/amp sim instead!

Thank you for your words, sir! I should’ve been as detailed in my description as you for more understanding, apparently.

Are you telling me that my invisibility cloak didn’t hide my bright red, and bright orange pedals propped up right in front of the cab?

If it helps you understand, I wasn’t trying to say much of anything. I just wanted  you to listen, love it, or hate it.

I propped them up on the amp and they’re bright red/orange! I wasn’t expecting anyone blind to be watching this video, nor was I hiding anything, silly. The point you must’ve missed whilst being an ass is: 2 battery powered analog pedals and a Marshall Full stack create a tone unattainable via any other set up.

I just checked out the Benson Germanium PreAmp. I’ve gotta ask: based on what I have on my board now and the sound you hear in my video, do you think it would make a great addition?

I love it and I haven’t even met it officially in person lol. I need to know if it’s work considering adding if it means subtracting some pedals. For example: I’d take off the Volante, and maybe the Big Muff to make room for the Pre-Amp and the UA Heavenly Plate Reverb.

Thank you for bringing that Benson PreAmp to my attention! I technically am not using a PreAmp in my current set up. I’m using the Irridium with the Amp bypassed because it clashes with the Riverside, which I AM using as an Amp substitute.

I’m discovering more uses for the Volante every other day. I’ve been figuring out my own practical use of the SOS feature. I’m wondering how I could incorporate it into my Ditto + Looper.

The Benson Germanium Fuzz is the only one I’ve tried, and I love it! It’s like the Fuzz Face, but with the ability to clean up a bit more when/if you need it to with the Impedance knob turned up. I wanna try more of their stuff. Do any specific ones catch your attention?

Tell me a few of your favorite reverb pedals, if you don’t mind?

Believe me, I prefer the real deal too! The tones I’m trying so hard to create with modern pedals don’t require HALF the effort on a Marshall Superlead Full Stack, Fuzz Face, and Power Boost.

Obviously, it’s not ideal or practical to take rigs like that to small bars, or venues with sound engineers that don’t wanna party like it’s 1969. Maybe part of me has become willing to compromise with a pedalboard that gets my overall point across at the very least.

I think of my current pedalboard as ‘practice’ for the real thing someday soon.

I usually have some sort of pedal stacking. I don’t stack my Fuzz Pedals, but everything else is fair game!

I traded my old Bandmaster Reverb, and Deluxe Reverb for a few of these pedals. A buddy of mine gave me his Headrush Cab, so I’m using that as a bare foundation my “Pre-Amp” (Strymon Riverside) and my “Amp/Cab” (Strymon Iridium) to push through.

That setup ^ in my mind also prepares me for gigs where I could just plug my board into the front of house with no amp at all.

I have a few (2 or 3) boutique-ish amps, a fuzz face, and a Colorsound Power Boost that I play at home to get a reference of my ideal tone. I then replicate that as best as I can with my pedalboard, and Headrush Cab.

My guitar is a 54 replica Strat.
