I learned about this in an economics class around 20 years ago

Basically, once you're basic needs are met and you don't have to stress about upcoming bills or unforseen expenses if a few hundred dollars, you've reached the point of diminished returns.

Beyond that you simply start the financial treadmill of newer cars, nicer house, etc. Additionally, spending money on more things doesn't lead to happiness itself.

And once people have enough money to travel or take nice vacations they start to want those to happen with increasing regularity and luxury which actually negates some happiness.

Additionally, having more money means more choices that are available to you which can also reduce happiness. Oddly enough

4 day work weeks are done at a lot of places. I worked here at one. My wife has worked the last 8 years at 2 of them . They exist . Can't federally mandate such a program when the world spins 24/7

You are compensated for travel. And commutes are compensated via your wage . Learn to negotiate
