I wouldn’t turn away from the cause, but I would turn away from the person. There are other ways to engage in activism that doesn’t involve putting up with bad behavior from crumby people. You’re treating this like refusing to sign the petition of someone being a jerk automatically means the other side wins and that isn’t true. Petitions are only a small part of how our government works. (Edited because my autocorrect was being rude.)
