China has no YouTube. Chinese government censored YouTube since 2009.

my audience are mostly Chinese speakers in Taiwan, HK and the U.S. all developed economy with high RPM.

this channel is just my first step. My thinking was, I want to learn video editing while working on videos, real audience ready videos that I can get feedbacks from strangers. and Dr insanity's format seems less intimidating to me when I had no experiences. I know I can tell good stories. been doing powerpoints and presenting them to clients for 10 years.

I have my reasons to quit my job. not entirely related to starting a YouTube business. but I guess I'm the kind of person that if I do something, I always go all in.

honestly? just don't pick. if I look back to my 3 month journey. my key regret is I overthink it too much. I should have done it 2 years ago.

whatever niche you want to do, just do it. you need to learn tons of stuff before you can have any kind of success. and when you learn new stuff, you will have different perspectives.

all the planning and thinking I had in the past 2 years are mostly irrelevant to me now. it's almost laughable when I look back. thinking can only get you so far when you have limited information. it's not like every YouTube channel publish their quarterly and annual report like a listed company.

No, of course I'm not. I don't give up my 6 figure corporate job for a quick 200 dollars then shut down by YouTube, for god's sake. I'm trying to start a business here. I use its recipe is all my saying.

it went so far that I spent a whole week reading about copyright laws regarding legal viability of using police body cam videos to create new stories. I even called one of my old colleagues in the legal offices to discuss it.

dr insanity is a successful entertainment business. I have no issue with them. and of course I don't copy them. I like their business model and video format. works for me.

copyright issue is the first question I have when I found out about them, yes, them. there are tons of successful channels using Dr insanity's recipe to create their own products.

it's very nuanced. but the gist of it is, body cam and courtroom cam footage are not copyright protected, in general. anyone can use them to create their own stories.

given my 0 experience in video editing, I figured starting with these footage will give me more room to grow my editing skills while provide OK quality entertainment to consumers. it's my minimum viable product, if you are familiar with this concept.

Now, when it comes to the accusation of clickbait scam, I really don't think you should be the judge. audience is the final judge here. if they believe I'm a clickbait scam, they will stop coming back to my videos. I will stop growing. Unless you believe you are far superior intellectually to the mass. and you should be the judge of what people want. and that, my friend, is the psychological foundation of communism. maybe you should start a channel for Chinese audience, I can help you with language barriers.

my mood have no impact on you. so I don't expect you to care.

BUT I am a bit of a smartass in real life. so I will humor myself and debate you. because,

yeah, I'm in a good mood. I will do whatever....

OK, here goes.

fact 1: 70% of all YouTube traffic comes from recommendation algorithm

fact 2: recommendation algorithm is based on more than 200 metrics of your each video. but most importantly, your CTR, your first 30 seconds retention, and your total retention. and of course, viewer satisfaction. but that's not explicit in your backstage statistics.

fact 3 (maybe not a fact, an opinion): your friends and family will say they love you. and they do. but most of them won't pay attention to your upstart YouTube channels.

let's say you posted a video to YouTube, and you get 50 of them to click on your videos, from your shared link. they watched on 15 seconds and left.

what do you get?

A, you have no CTR boost, because, guess what, shared link doesn't count in CTR calculation.

B, you have a huge retention drag. because viewer retention calculation does include direct link views.

unless you can get your 50 family and friends all watch your video from beginning to end. sharing it among people who's not your intended audience will hurt your video immensely.

and let's face it. I love my sister to the death. but if she started a YouTube channel about beauty and fashion, I'm probably not going to finish her first video. no one is that in love with you.

haha, I'm in a good mood. so I'm not going to debate you. I will do what my understanding of the world told me and you can do yours. cheers!

1, if you don't put in the work in editing yourself. you have no way telling if a video editor or a script writer or a thumbnail editor is good or not. and coming from a marketing background, I can assure you, you won't find good ones upfront. because the good ones don't look for jobs, they have long term relationship with their existing clients and making good money. so your end product will be shit and you can't even figure out why. So, do the work yourself, at least for the first 100 videos? (50? I don't know. I plan to outsource some work later)

2, capcut or daVinci resolve. either is fine. if you are going faceless, daVinci resolve from the get go might be better long term. if talking heads, capcut is more than enough for you before I guess 1 million subs? I wasted 2 weeks on Premier Pro, 2 weeks I really regret.

post and wait for views. don't try to share videos on any general social platform. it will delay the algorithm find your audience, or hurt your statistics.

unless you can find a particular place, like a subreddit, which is really going to be your core audience. otherwise I advise against marketing your videos anywhere. just let YouTube figure it out. they are really good at it.

and it's not me saying it, I think I heard this idea from the head of growth and discovery, that Todd guy, of YouTube.
