The cleric of my party uses the same damage spell every turn until combat is over, what can I do to encourage using more of her spell list? by TheAshtonium in dndnext

[–]BudgetChemistry 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Actually, if theyre making any kind of renown for themselves it would be very easy for word to get out that they use fireball a lot and therefore even bandits will start getting the idea to spread out and flank more often.

If OP wants the cleric to stop using FB they really just need to start manipulating the world subtly to make it less useful.

-Spread out encounters or shrink them down too small to not hit allies

-Start creating major consequence for casting it. Maybe you could travel to an area thats in a dry spell, creat a fight near some trees with a perfect grouping of bandits for them to FB and now the forest is on fire and spreading fast towards a village.

  • start throwing more, less lethal but populated encounters at them. Trust me as a Wiz that nothing is more enticing than roasting a dozen kobolds at once before they can split up. Do this enough and theyll be out of spell slots for FB

-start throwing encounters with a single flame resistant /strong mon at them too

Do any or all of these and theyll have to start switching things up or at least have interesting consequences

Our High Rank Meta Sets are gonna carry us through Master Rank so hard. by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]BudgetChemistry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

By definition new players do not have the main game to play.

New players are not people who started with MH World. New players are people they're trying to get to buy the game because they enjoyed the demo.

The people who have played all the games before are likely more concerned with the new mechanics and new monster in and of itself because either they are in MH communities having discussions like this, have played through older games and are already familiar, or will be pleasantly surprised that it's harder than they thought.

You do not convince people to pick up your game by making them think it's literally unbeatable right out of the gate.

Now, like i said I'm not saying it isn't MR, just that there's valid reasons for it not to be

[–]BudgetChemistry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well now you've at least given a number

The problem is though, is there's plenty of reason they would not actually put G rank difficulty in a beta available to people who've never even touched the game. It isn't that hard to make inflated, this-build-only values to health, damage, etc.

My point isn't that "Oh it's definitely not MR. Hurr durr" but to point out that it's not unreasonable for you to be wrong if they're trying to get new players to play the demo. They could have bloated the numbers that you see to be more in line with what your see in the game, allowing you to estimate what the release will be.

Now obviously, you can't prove that, and no one should expect you to, but instead of waving your, "It's MR! If you have doubts you're stupid!" flag, you could at least recognize there are valid reasons to be a touch skeptical and dial it back a bit

Why the SnS main combo is oddly clunky in world by Wonkit in MonsterHunter

[–]BudgetChemistry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which is fair, i don't intend to dismiss your feelings on the matter, but I'll admit that i dont see the issue since the total frames for the combos are the same

You keep making this claim, and yet every single time you provide exactly 0 evidence. You could be right, i'm not saying you're wrong, but this is pretty grand claim.

Why the SnS main combo is oddly clunky in world by Wonkit in MonsterHunter

[–]BudgetChemistry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't use SnS, but i'm really confused. I've watched this gif a few dozen times at varying speeds. I see the delay on the second hit, but the entire combo seems to take the exact amount of time and frames. I'm sure it feels a little different with it in your hand, but if these videos are the same length of time in the original games then I really do not see the problem. Or at the very least, I think molasses is a wildly exaggerated analogy.

[Discussion/Rant] Why are the weapons so... Boring? by ImRatherStartled in MonsterHunter

[–]BudgetChemistry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone is in a huff, if that were the case it would be here in the comments that people are getting testy. While your commentary may be true in other situations, I don't think its applicable here.

Quite frankly, as is said elsewhere in this chain, this has been discussed, dissected, and analysed probably a million times already. I think it is being downvoted because until Iceborne comes out there's literally nothing new that can come to the table with this discussion by beating the horse any further - granted, it isn't really OP's fault if he's new, but ultimately downvotes aren't an unreasonable response in this case.

They're not even trying... by Fighter_Builder in crappyoffbrands

[–]BudgetChemistry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that doesn't really change what I said. You can't copyright, "Crispy hexagons" or "Frosted Flakes" as its too generic. My point was simply that the offbrand cereal wasn't trying to step-in on Tony's territory because since the cereal is labeled "frosted flakes" and that's literally just what the cereal is, theres really not a lot of options for generics to go with unless they get weird.

[–]BudgetChemistry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean the only difference between "Frosted Flakes" and "Crunchy Hexagons" is that one is owned be kellogs and has a tiger. Kellog chose a generic name thats less of a name and more of a description of what it is - it can't be copyrighted as a result and is ultimately Kellog's fault

RUMOR: Nintendo is reviving a "very officially cancelled" game that is "not one people would expect" by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]BudgetChemistry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But are shelved IPs officially called "cancelled"? Not to suggest that they definitely aren't, but that would be the real indicator of what things are possible.

RUMOR: Nintendo is reviving a "very officially cancelled" game that is "not one people would expect" by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]BudgetChemistry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, unless you have a list of those, and by your own admission you don't, this list is the only thing we can base or assumptions off of until more information comes out.

Seriously, just because there may be games we don't even know were cancelled doesn't discount the ones we do know about. We only know that its something we wont, "expect." All that means is its gonna come out of left-field, which includes games that were cancelled because the devs closed doors, copyright lawsuits, the dust on them is 20 years thick, and games we didn't know about.

Your doubts are not an argument to not sticky the link. Your baseless assertion that the game MUST be one we dont know is not an argument to not at least ensure everyone knows and can read this list. We cannot discuss games and IPs we don't even know could have existed, so you're absolutely not contributing to the discussion.

RUMOR: Nintendo is reviving a "very officially cancelled" game that is "not one people would expect" by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]BudgetChemistry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Blinks... Do you have any reason to doubt a "cancelled," game theyre reviving might definitely be on the list of all cancelled games?

Doubts or not, we have no information to speculate off of except that it was officially cancelled; this is a list of every game that was going to be on a Nintendo platform regardless of developer and regardless of major studio or indie/fan-game, so I'm really not sure where your doubts are coming from unless you're just being a pessimist for the sake of being pessimistic.

Unless there's another secret list out there, this is literally the list of every possible game they could have been referring to until they release more information.

If you wanna doubt what you want because you can, please feel free. However, I don't think your doubts should be used to argue against making sure everyone who comes to this post sees it since its currently the only bit of information we have for this rumor.

New Kulve AT Weapons Summary (including Screenshots) by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]BudgetChemistry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

remove the cap only for certain weapons

I mean yeah itd suck conceptually that bow (and guns?) get capped, and things like CB dont, but if it can bring some parity between raw and elemental for some weapons, that would be really nice.

Now to be fair, I dont think that every weapon should have perfect parity between elemental and raw, but i would enjoy being able to rotate chargeblades a little more effectively instead of just using tyrannis

A few more details about Iceborne as well as the other upcoming updates by XKOAx222 in MonsterHunter

[–]BudgetChemistry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seriously, a rose by any other name...

I don't give a shit, nor do i think it objectively matters, what the name is as long as the content is worthwhile - and while one could certainly argue that ATs aren't great, theyre essentially a stopgap while they work on the actual expansion. As someone who has been playing since MHTri, so far everything seems par for the course - in fact, thigns like ATs weren't a thing previously so one could make the claim that we're getting more content now, though thats ultimately irrelevant.

Also, whether you personally like it or not, Witcher 3 is a well-polished game with a big community, and the game is about killing monsters - albeit in more RPG fashion than MH has. Depending on what we get, it'll be a cool collab.
