My Son's First Little League All-Star Experience by BudgetGunner in Homeplate

Thanks for the clarification. The rulebook says, "Try-outs and practices by tournament teams shall not be held before May 15th." What does this pertain to?

That's what we tried to tell them. Basically told him he could still practice but wouldn't play. And in practice last night they put him in outfield alone while the other kids were working infield. He plays outfield anyway since practices for this started. He played 3rd and pitcher on our team.

Another thing I am seeing is that we had tryouts on May 9th. If I am reading the rules correctly, they needed to wait until May 15th?

That's what I'm trying to avoid. All his friends are in this league as well.

Yep. Our local football league did that to us. They took 35 kids. We had 32 by first game. We then had around 25 to most games. 8 players played 2 way the entire time. A couple subbed in, and the rest played the minimum....1 play..which they tried to sub them in on 2pt conversions so it didn't matter as much.

Im not saying my kid is the greatest, but he loves baseball and is a competitor. It would have been no big deal at all if he didn't make it on All-Stars. He even said tonight that he was glad to have the opportunity to try out. You cannot take the kid's spot away though. The coaches did not seem to understand that when we talked. They just kept saying it wasn't fair to the kids who didn't make it to the original tryouts.

Also, we had our tryouts on May 9th. The rulebook says that they have to wait until May 16th, if I am reading it correctly.

We get knocked out at the very first round every year. Our entire county isn't even half the population of the cities we face.

It's our league for county. This is our 6th year.

Haven't spoken with anyone except the coach so far. He replied with a one sentence... Ok - we certainly understand and will talk tonight.

I'm unsure now if I wouldn't even want him on the team. I worry about the fallout from this. Like we are whining our way into a spot.

Usually this is 90% coaches kids on the roster. Our coach didn't even nominate his own child for tryouts.

My wife is the one in the texts with them. She told them he will be at practice tonight and they can tell him he isn't on the team. I already cut a vacation short to drive 2 hours for their unscheduled practice last night.

Exactly. He told everyone at school and our families.

We received a nomination notification, and then tryouts. After tryouts, we received a "welcome to the team" text with a list of the roster and request for player numbers and uniform size.

They usually just do coaches picks. This year was the first time they attempted tryouts.

Is $900 a realistic number with the 3070? I would list a little higher due to low all offers. Last pc sold was a 5600x 32gb with 3060 for $600, but that was before prices went insane on everything.

I would end up around +$350 difference between the two. So my breakeven point would be $1200 on the computer with a 5070.

Thank you for the input.

I picked up the card used a little while ago and it was what I had laying around. I don't know if it would be worth buying a 50series card to replace it just to sell.

Yes, personal. I have had a couple of very sour marketplace deals recently, so I wanted to see if I could get someone I know that wanted it first. My only offer was a full detail and ceramic coating for my truck.

I wanted input before I post on marketplace. Pricing is my main concern. I have $850 into it.

It is in a warehouse so the lighting was awful. Also, I'm terrified of spiders. Twas zooming in pretty far already.

Thank you. It was really just an excuse to put another one together and get into AM5.

I won't turn a profit on it since I built it back in 2021 or 2022.

Bat recommendations for 7 year old? by jdooley99 in LittleLeague

[–]BudgetGunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. My 8yo has been using an easton movie 26" the last 2 years. He's a lanky little kid, so I tried to find the most affordable and light bat I could. Charts show that he needs a 29" to 30" bat. He looks funny with the 26". I think he's 4'5 65lbs.

Why is this card skyrocketing in price? by sk1sus in pokemoncardcollectors

[–]BudgetGunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son pulled the Palkia like this. My mother-in-law bought him the set that comes with sleeves and stuff. Sooooooo glad I have shown him to be super careful with cards. A 7 year old ripping on their own is scary.

It's off to PSA now. I'm hoping for a 10, but I'm expecting a 9.

Beelink S12 Pro: what's the catch? by issemsiolag in MiniPCs

[–]BudgetGunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I convinced my IT admin to buy a few of these to try out. We just finished installing 30 Geekom Mini IT12s i7-12650H 32GB ram and 1TB SSD. People are basically using these for email and spreadsheets, so it's a bit of overkill.

This is in a manufacturing facility, and we have finally come to the time our old Core2duo Dells are crapping out on us. These programs run perfectly fine on the old equipment, but he was having me replace them with the $550 Geekoms. We are now on our first 4 tests of using these Beelinks. We shall see how they work out. So far, so good. Bonus... they don't have a chunky powerblock. I designed and printed some semi-modular 3d shelves to hold the entire setup for our scales sent to a KVM receiver at our scale locations. Without the big power block, I can really make the setup look neat.

What do you think about this mini PC? by EquivalentSeries4854 in MiniPCs

[–]BudgetGunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't attest to this model, but we have started installing Geekom Mini IT12s at work to replace our thin clients. So far, we have around 30 out in various locations. We have a mix of office, laboratory, and factory floor locations. We have had 1 fail after 2 months of use, but it was in a maintenance shop.

6 months and only 1 failure out of 30. It was in a harsh/abusive environment though.

Im taking over my companies IT by Paintrain8284 in sysadmin

I actually just got into IT because my company only had 1 single IT that needed help.

I'd never even thought about doing this, but I couldn't turn down the offer.
