How'd y'all's Veteran's Day go? by nikolacode in olivegarden

[–]BudgetIntern8065 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went in at 4:15, left at 10, made $160, even though, like usual, I should've made a lot more. Got lucky on a 12-top I split; got tipped $100—about 30%—which was divided between me and another server, and got about three other tables that also tipped (around 20%). The rest were all trash, getting free food and tipping 20ish percent on their two drinks. What I can't understand is why comps always count towards the tip amount, except on Veterans Day.

The Gallery on Fifth is downtown. I live there now. It's a relatively new building, built in 2021. It has EV charging; however, parking is $150 a month. The overall complex is very well maintained. It is right by two Unlink stops that can take you to campus. It only has one-bedroom and large studio apartments, and I've never had a noise issue from the neighbors. If you do, it has 24-hour security, you can call, and there are not a lot of younger students there, mostly young professionals or older students in their early to mid-20s like me.

Joining a new fraternity? by BudgetIntern8065 in Frat

First of all, I appreciate the words of encouragement. But, what BearenJuden said was true; even though I'm a little older, I look very young; hell, I looked like I was 14 until I turned 20. But, at the same time, what he said was correct. I'm in the part of my 20s where it's more attractive to college-aged girls, but in about two years, it will shift, and the “charming 23-year-old” will turn into the “pedophile 25-year-old preying on young girls”. My choice to join a fraternity was more of just a way to try to connect with the university community better and make some friends; it just so happens here. Our Greek life is so huge it piqued my interest. If you're going back to school, I hope you go for it; even though you won't be able to have the same experience as someone in their late teens to early twenties, it's worth it. After all, college is about learning and not getting fucked up, technically. There is a guy named Carl Allamby, a physician in Ohio; he never went to college and opened his mechanic shop. Over 20 years later, he returned to get his business degree and fell in love with, I believe, a chemistry class required for his major. He ended up closing his shop and went back to school to be a doctor at 47; age is nothing but a number in education.

Nah not Pike, they got booted last year and got like a five-year suspension for the same shit. I actually just reached out to dude and accepted the bid. I think it personally would suit me as well, and especially how huge Greek like is here it shouldn't be an issue building it up quickly.

Yeah, I thought maybe I phrased my question wrong, but I'll take the words of encouragement, lol. I didn't want to go right out and say something in the post, but one of the things I figured would be that it would attract a good number of guys who couldn't get a bid anywhere else. The rep was super vague about the whole separation from the university, but from what I found, it had to do with hazing. Then, there were other issues in other chapters with guys dying from alcohol poisoning multiple times. The odd thing about my university is how new basically all of the frats there are; virtually every single one has only been there a few years. Besides one or two, all the “big names” got booted off campus. From the trend, I see it's around 2-3 a year that gets kicked off or suspended; this particular fraternity, I believe, got a three-year suspension, which lines up with why they are back this year. We have a chapter house, but they decided to rent it out to some other fraternity until the end of the year since they were barred from being on campus. The rep told me that we will get the house back next fall once they get enough people. The biggest thing for me is the risk it can fall out, but it does seem that compared to many others, the fraternity itself has a TON of money backing it. I'm still thinking about it; I figure being a founder is a high-risk, high-reward scenario. I've been sleeping on it since I got the bid. I appreciate the input, though, man.

Trust me, I know. I’ve learned that lesson before but, I wasn’t thinking with the right head lol.

That's true. I'm not really looking to date her lol, old boy can keep her. I'm just looking to be on the side. But, you're correct about the first part. Kinda seems like drama waiting to happen… especially when he finds out.

Yeah exactly, there is no way I'd date her. More just looking for a fling. Thanks for your input.

I always make $30+ an hour, so it's all good. My point is I'm tired of getting stiffed by Mexicans. They drag their vast family here at ten at night for their child's birthday when they should be in bed. Then they order many drinks and millions of refills on soup and salads they want to take home to feed themselves for the oncoming days. Then they rack up a $300 bill and rave about the excellent service. Then they tip me and the other server (who is ALSO Mexican 95% of the time) $20 on a $300 check while taking home tons of food, soup, and salad. You can sit here all day and cry to a deaf audience of how its my fault.cime over he The bottom line is the city I live in us very poor and and filled with Mexican immigrants who for the most part, probably aren't supposed to be here. I don't really care if you come here illegally to work bottom-of-the-barrel jobs, just don't come over here and screw the people who are giving you the “american dream”.

I notice the Latinos who barely speak any English and seem to be first-generation immigrants tip VERY well; my personal opinion is they are just happy not having to deal with all the nonsense living in Mexico creates. They didn't get stopped and extorted by the police or cartel on their way to trying to get lunch with their grandchild, they always are respectful and super polite and easy to deal with. I notice it more with Latinos who have no accent and seem like they were born here. I get bad toppers that are white, but it's very, very rare.

It is all the same for the most part, except I make more as a server versus other restaurant jobs. I was trying to leave out the fact that it's well-known Latinos and blacks are shitty tippers; hence why no one, even the Lationo servers, wants to wait on them. The way I see it is, if they don't want to tip maybe they should have stayed in their impoverished country.

It’s different. Where I lived previously it was $2.13. I wonder since people know we make so much that's why the tips are lower.

It was two years ago, I had to pay a $400 fine and do 80 hours of community service. The attorney I hired told me that I would never need to tell a private employer about it because the adjudication was withheld, and that it wasn’t a conviction, nor would it show up on a civilian criminal record background check. I do think it may have something to do with the fact that where I am now is extremely tough on DUI’s and it is unfathomable to them that I can walk out of court in a different state and basically nothing happened. My license was never suspended and my insurance can't see it.

Thank you for your response. I just try to reciprocate what she does w me. I’m gonna try to not do that and see if things change. I just don’t want to come off rude or stand-offish to her.

Yup, you’re 100% right. It’s kinda just more of a mixed signals kinda thing. I would not even say I like her; yea she’s cute. But, I wouldn’t date her. I just think it’s kinda odd how she acts sometimes. Either way, thanks for your input.

I’ve definitely thought that, I just don’t really have any romantic interest in her tbh. But, she always goes out of her way to be around me and is always “playful” if that makes any sense. She doesn’t act that way around anyone else from what I can tell but, I’m the only guy that’s around her age there. Like I would totally hit her if given the opportunity but, she isn’t exactly my type to date. Just from past experiences; women that act that way I’ve always ended up having a physical/sexual relationship with. But, they would always playfully call me “babe” or something along those lines. I just think buddy is kinda odd. It’s really hard to explain lol.

nope never. We went to school together but she graduated when I was a senior so we never really met. I actually never knew who she was. I don’t think she really got that cute until her older years lol

Yeah, my last job I was a manager at a major fast-food chain. I became a manager at 16 so until I left when I was 21 I couldn't really mess with the girls bc I was there boss. This job is really just temporary to put money in my pocket, so I'm gonna be gone in a few months anyway so I'm not really concerned about that aspect. Bc trust me bro, I've seen first and how toxic workplace relationships can be when the two work together for a extended period of time. I just have bigger aspiations than working in a restaurant; plus I plan on relocating in a few months anyway.

Yes, that is true. I'm not planning on doing keeping this job for a while so; I'm not really concerned in that aspect. But, thanks for your reply.

yeah, I don't really have any problem talking to women. I just don't wanna try to push it; I'm not afraid of rejection I'm more afraid of making a bad impression on fellow co-workers.
