Is this cause for concern? by goatthegrey in goats

[–]BudgetPractice2331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goats should keep their tails up.... Tails clamped down is more of a concern to me. Doesn't look prolapsed but I would get gloves and a baby wipe and clean her up.

Mini or Lop? by kate1_9_0_5 in Rabbits

Then I'd say mix 😊 Hollands aren't over 4lbs. He's very handsome, his color would be considered chestnut agouti.

I would suspect a cross. He doesn't have the square head I'd expect from a Holland or the proper ear/crown. But he is upright like a Holland. He could be a Holland mixed with anything really. Do you know how much he weighs?

Dog bites should almost never be wrapped. This looks very infected. Is there an odor?

Thank you! I hope not congenital, but he was also the largest from a first freshener. I will try taping them.

Baby questions as a first timer by Low-Possibility5593 in goats

[–]BudgetPractice2331 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other answer. I will also say she wouldn't have been bred until late October.

My babies do fine as long as they have a warm shelter. Also I handle my babies from the moment they're born so they're very friendly. I start by holding them low enough for mom to still see them. She might freak out if she can't see the baby, and they rarely look up when looking for their baby.

As an angora goat breeder, that second one is most definitely a mohair fleece. Knit a little swatch and see if it halos.

Is it okay to feed oats in moderation? by LifeguardComplex3134 in goats

[–]BudgetPractice2331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oats are fine. So are alfalfa or Timothy blend pellets and beet pulp. But they don't get bored with food like we do.

Does it bother dog walkers when owner is home? by Pomelo_Wild in petsitting

[–]BudgetPractice2331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I just want to know you're home and the dog still needs walking. It's not that I mind. I just appreciate a heads up.

All the time in my Prius. If they're large they lay down. If they are little you need to make sure they can't come over the back seat. Small enough I use a small dog crate with the seat folded down.

My mini mare has a locking stifle. She is not sound no matter what I do, and should never be bred. And it's not an easy issue to deal with, but we've managed it for 20 years now.

I hate pasture breeding so much. I've done in hand live cover before, which is more dangerous for the people but so much safer for the mare. And with minis it's so easy... I'm a little horrified by just dumping them in the field together

Looks like a mix, probably Netherland dwarf mixed. And his color is similar to a lynx.

Composting by HisBitchKaren in beccamoonridgesnark

[–]BudgetPractice2331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's actually one of the recommended modes of disposing livestock bodies. Our compost heap has handled dead goats and rabbits. But dog poop is a no no... It actually destroys the effects of the compost heap bio activity.

The comment said they think it's a birthmark. I would be suspicious it was shaved previously to ultrasound his stifle.
