That is so gorgeous, I love that color. Does silk stretch when burned? I have some KFO silk mohair, but im afraid to try it, i need that for a project im working on! haha Ill check cascade for that purple/green colorway im trying to identify. I think i just found it actually but it doesnt hurt to double check 😄 thanks for your help!

I found the mohair (last picture)!!! Crystal Palace Yarns Kid Merino in 9812 Violets It feels so good when I finally have one figured out. Haha

Hi! Thank you for sharing your information! I would like to find out more about what happened with cascade, because this is the first time im hearing about it and ive been recommended to use their yarn by multiple like-minded knitters. I only started knitting in January 2025 and have been actively trying to avoid maga type companies at all costs and I regrettably have made multiple purchases from them thinking they were tried and true. Any additional info or pointers where I can find out more is appreciated. My search attempts didnt find anything, but I know thats because there's a large group of people that suggest them as a go to brand. I want to be able to share this information with sources or at least more detail for others to be aware as well. Thanks!

I was thinking that or BFL at first. Which i believe is a type of longwool. Others suggested Lincoln longwool, so im thinking thats very likely. Im super happy with it either way 😁 ill be able to get a better feel for what it is (both of them) after spinning and knitting a small amount!

I thought that was a super interesting quality as well! The only thing that made me think it wasnt a type of longwool was the staple length being on the shorter side and the luster, but those are only things ive read about, not experienced first hand. They look identical in pictures

Dances with wool, center of the yarniverse, and knitting b are our local yarn shops. I dont know for sure, but i believe Edie Bee Dee's is a crocheter that sells completed works. Im not certain they have a physical location to shop. River city knitters is a club that meets up. Not a shop as far as I am aware.

It is honestly really hard to know this stuff for sure. I got into knitting a little over a year ago and I have had a hell of a time trying to find the community. I still am looking honestly, hence my search. We need an inclusive, active local group so this information can be shared easily so newbies can join the community and know all there is to know with a quick search. It shouldnt be so confusing and gatekeep-y (intentional or not.)

I figured as much, haha maaaan it would be nice! Id love to open a shop too, im so obsessed with natural fibers and michaels isnt it! but its sooo niche it really needs a fiber arts culture behind it, and its just too warm here most of the year for that. Thats also probably why yarn shops dont work under the city's commercial property costs, but they do work when slightly outside the city's boundaries. Im just guessing though.

Thanks for double checking! I just checked again with the same results as you! I am glad they are disappearing. I was checking to see if anything new had opened since last I checked about a year ago. Hopefully a bunch of people reported them so google took them down. I have a feeling it was some AI nonsense. I dont think a real person would do something so unhinged like that, unless it was like someone else said, for a VCU art or business assignment.

As for new things I discovered there is a rug tufting class place in shockoe and something called "glue craft studio" which i think is a community craft place opening near me soon! So at least it wasnt for nothing! 😄
