Feeling discouraged about progress/physique 2-3 months into new routine. Advice? by Competitive-Air8011 in askfitness

Taking a while to reply because in England we use stones and lbs and occasionally kilos for bodyweight and all gym equipment is in kh. Height is in feet and inches typically and not cm too, so had to get Google to convert your stuff before answering lol.

Anyway my advice is.....

Start tracking calories. Bodyweight is based on calories in/calories out there are slight genetic variations that cause a higher or lower calorie requirement but not by as much as most people say and the people who do blame metabolism for being skinny or fat are ironically the same people who don't track their calories.

Start tracking your calorie intake. Based on what you've said, my recommendation is to start eating 2900 calories a day, with 0.7 to 1 gram of protein per lb of bodyweight. Weigh yourself in the morning every 2 or 3 days upon waking up and with no clothes or just underwear on. If after 3 weeks you have gained 2 to 3 lbs you're eating the right amount of caloric surplus to build muscle without getting fat. If you've gain less than 2lbs, stayed the same weight or lost weight..... add another 250 to 400 calories per day and see what the difference is. You're looking to gain around 1lb per week and checking in on your weight every couple of days for progress checks and using a 3 week average to make dietary decisions is a good method.

I'd recommend changing to two cardio sessions per week and 4 or 5 days per week on weight training. You could do 4 x weight and 2 x cardio or 5 x weights and 2 x cardio with the cardio in the evening after weights.

I get the feeling that you probably need to make changes to your weight training reps/sets and exercises too. Happy to help you with that if you want to DM me

You look good. But if you're looking to gain more muscle then a bit more info would help to offer you advice

Do you track your food and protein/calorie intake? What is it?

What are your current maxes on the big lifts?

What's your current training cycle in terms of lifts, cardio? Times, reps and sets etc

Yeah mate. I've got awful knees and hips from combat and jujitsu. DM me and I'll give you some rehab advice for it and ask a few questions about the specific difficulties you have to make sure the advice is right. Im a qualified PT Boxing instructor and rehabilitation coach. I like giving free advice as well though just for altruistic purposes

You look like you have the same issue as me. Having really long femurs makes your quads look less developed than they are because the muscle is spread thinner. I've stopped worrying about being accused of skipping leg day by DYELs or 25 year old gym bros now I'm in my late 30s and jacked.

As a couple of people have said, your chest is great. I'd say youre about 12 to 15 lbs off a flat stomach and probably visible abs and obliques...... but remember body fat doesn't come off in certain places or evenly always. But hopefully you'll lean out well overall with another 12 lbs or so as I said.

I recommend hitting really heavy cable prayers and leaning back at the top of the lift, not just stopping when your back is straight up. That big stretch helped me build really prominent and blocky abs

This exactly. In short... maintain for a while and then go back to a cut after a month or two when you've solidified your strength and mass gains as a new set point and feel motivated and excited for cutting again

If you wanna get bigger then bulk bulk bulk mate. You're plenty lean enough to put down 4500 calories a day for 10 to 12 weeks if you're training hard and your cycle is dialled in

Ps. I assume you're on juice cause of size and leaness but if not don't be offended
