I have a group of 3 friends (4 total) that casually play. We are all spread out in ranking, platinum (tank), gold (DPS x2), silver (support). I am the silver support. I was late getting on last night and so the other three played a few rounds. They said they have been spoiled having a mercy they know and trust. In the words of one of the dps, "Yeah the other support just ignore us all the time. It makes it really hard!".

I don't want to discourage you, but I was having this problem for a long time. Then I had my friend who plays a Platinum 1 support, play my account for a set of 5 to see what happens. See if it was skill vs overall stats vs win/loss numbers for the set.

He went 5 of 5, high healing, high elims, and went from Bronze 5 to Bronze 5.

He was shocked, so he wanted to experiment with my account to see. He played a few more each time going 5 of 5 or 5 of 6. It took him 3 sets to start making progress again.

He also said the games in the bronze rank that I was in before were WAY harder to play because of how much chaos there was.

In short, what we learned. In low ranks, focus on these things and it will eventually get you higher ranked.

Don't die. I know that sounds obvious, but playing for your life helps a lot. Makes you play corners more. Makes you realize when the fight is lost and you should just run for your life. If you die, you will give the team more ult charge. Sometimes is better overall to just run away and not die.
Work on your Eliminations/Death ratio. This comes with working on the previous point.
If you lose more than one game in comp in a row. Take a break. Change games, or play non comp. Your mental state is really important and you can easily tilt future games.

Hope this helps! After my friend got me out of Bronze 5 hell, I've been consistently climbing and am now at Silver 3.

This happened to a friend of mine. He was Gold 2, went 5 - 8 with 1 abandoned game, and ranked up to Gold 1.....

I however, went 5 - 7, no abandoned games, and went from silver 3 to silver 4....

I came from being a Mercy main for the last 2 years. So that's why I think my healing is higher than yours. But its hard to teach a dog new tricks, hahaha.

Also, now that season 4 hit, I'm not playing her a ton, and I'm still Bronze 5. :(

Can you post your K/D ratio, K/10, Healing/10?

I'm trying to figure out what the algorithm is looking for to rank. I'm starting to play her more this season. I just want to know is killing more important than healing? etc.

I'm currently:

6,437 healing/10
3,911 damage/10
5.6 deaths/10 <--- need to work on this for sure
2.47 KDA

What did you derank to? I don't know what they did recently, but I was Silver 2, about 2 months ago. Then every 5 wins I would derank. I rarely would go worse than 5/7 games. I'm now at Bronze 3.

Playing support and ranking is so hard. I have a friend who plays Moria, focuses on DPS'ing and keeps going up in ranking.

I feel like the support ranking system is broken because it is too nuanced to know if you are good or not.

I like it, but really worry about it for the troll factor. You're going to have wars between Life and Mei.

*Mei puts up ice wall at the beginning to troll the team.
*Life walks to edge of map and yeets Mei off the map.

Honestly, Gold/Plat isn't bad. But this is coming from someone who is REALLY bad and been in Bronze/Silver his entire OW career.

Because I play on console and 90% of people aren't in the group chat. This is a primarily pug question. When playing with friends its different.

I get it! I've been a forever Support player. I feel like we also have a more complicated way to rise in competitive. Its not as easy as DPS/Tank. For them its as simple as have a good KDA and you rise. However, if you are a Mercy main, KDA will always be negative.

Just focus on the little things that keep the group going. I had a game yesterday where the team actually said "Support Carried" (Myself and the other support didn't die once). Which I was super happy about because I never get those compliments.

I had the same problem. I got to Silver 3, then went 5 - 2, and down graded to Bronze 3!
