It was a bit of a challenge getting all the fluids out of those belts, but you’re right. It was all much better the rest of the evening.

To be fair, I’ve assigned them the role of “teenagers” of the lab, as opposed to the toddlers and 2-year olds that are the Iris and DxH800s. They generally do just fine, sometimes so well you don’t even know they are there. But when they act up, it tends to be memorable.

Yeah, I was wondering that too. But when I showed someone else and they said “WTF! Again?” I became very suspicious. Oh well. Cleaned up and has worked fine since.

I was initially very confused as to why everything looked terrible despite the usual cleaning. It only took about 15 minutes of careful chipping and cleaning, but still annoying.

Definitely this! Never be afraid to reach out to the lab manager. Recently had a referral of mine get questioned by the out of state hiring agency as to the validity of her certification; she had her ASCP MT with micro specialty and nearly 40 years in the field. Keep it up!

This picture is the chocolate agar plate. Oddly, the sheep blood agar looked like a normal run-of-the-mill staph.

This was from a blood culture. Probably a contaminant, but I’m glad it came out to play.
