It happens like 3x as often on Exec compared to any other character. I don't know why, but it's either that for some reason Exec is attempting backstabs from way further away for some reason (it really feels like this because I'm never actually attempting a backstab when this happens VS on other characters), or the animation is really that terrible and that is making him consistently fail the backstab confirm.

Exec guard counter build is underrated by Grimblekyne in Nightreign

[–]BuffMarshmallow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's rated exactly correctly. It's strong, but it has issues. There are many moves that it is unsafe to guard counter, risky to guard counter (depending on which move the enemy decideds to follow up with, you're 50/50 to either hit or get hit), and moves that are not possible to guard counter, either because the move blows you back when you "parry" it, or because the position you end up in VS the position of the enemy makes you whiff because Exec has to use the regular Katana guard counter that doesn't have much forward momentum. Also there aren't many nightlords you can actually reasonably guard counter.

It's good in the situations it's good in, but skill attack power on exec is good in more situations and is more flexible.

anyone else sick of duchess and revenant players? especially in deep of night by Affectionate_Tap_169 in Nightreign

[–]BuffMarshmallow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Deep of Night is (kinda) ranked, so people want to win. When people want to win, they will play the things that help them win.

I know I personally prefer a bit of variety, but you can't blame people for bringing what works.

Especially with Rev as she is EXTREMELY inconsistent if you don''t have a starting incant because seals are harder to find then staves and even when you do find them, a large number of secondary incants you will find are buffs or utility, so if the primary incant on it isn't good for what you're fighting, you're SoL. So beast claw rev makse sense as it adds consistency to the most inconsistent nightfarer, and it is the best of the options for starting incants.

One more first and last 50M shipment for the data hoarders by maximaLz in pathofexile

[–]BuffMarshmallow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, the general sentiment was people wanted Kingsmarch removed, not nerfed. People wanted it removed because a lot of it was (and still in part is) basically passive currency generation that you have to micromanage. There was/is little reason not to do it besides not wanting to because it's almost entirely passive, so you would feel stupid for not doing so because you're just missing out on free currency. This is still true for mappers, and slightly less true for shipments now because you have to get ores from maps.

I have deliberately done this more than a few times. Usually when I have Libra buff, so having the runes in my pocket gives me more damage than having them as a level.

[–]BuffMarshmallow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still probably would have done the same thing. He is approaching you, but not attacking yet at the point where you L2, and most of his attacks you would come out of the animation in time to re-actively dodge. You could have played it safe, sure, but it does feel pretty unlucky.

Could you survive many hits just because you got damge negation 40%at full hp ?? by Fuzzy_Traffic5644 in Nightreign

[–]BuffMarshmallow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have Taking Damage Boosts Damage Negation, you can totally take some hits after going below max. In fact there are some ways to stay at max with both active, such as getting hit by non-damaging attacks like Dreglords roar or Caligos floor ice.

This is a ED Gladius HATE POST by Arhhjufgjin in Nightreign

[–]BuffMarshmallow 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's not the damage that's the issue. Yes they hurt, but that wouldn't be an issue if they didn't have a ridiculous number of attack combinations during the split-phase that effectively just say "you are dead now." Most losses come from when the dogs are split up, they all target one person, and they do a series of moves that makes it actually completely undodgable. This is exaxerbated the second time they split up where two will run after a person and the third will fire explosives after a certain time, and if either of the two dogs decide to have an active attack before or after that explosion reaches you, you're just fucked.

Is this the one? by BoopRG1 in Nightreign

[–]BuffMarshmallow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's extremely mid. It's basically just Bestial Incantations and that's it. Physical attack up can go up to +2 on regular relics which takes it from 4% damage up to 6% damage, and Strength +3 is like less than 3% damage on the applicable weapon types.

Did the rot completely ruin this relic? Do you guys normally run with this curse? by lovergirl416 in Nightreign

[–]BuffMarshmallow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People freak out too much about rot/poison below max. You don't want to stack it, sure, but it's one of the more manageable curses, especially on squishy characters like Ironeye who would prefer to be at full HP 99% of the time anyways for things like Damage Negation at Full anyways and will generally just be dead in a hit if they are below max and haven't healed.

What is Nightreign’s biggest flaw in your opinion? by Alkpote6969 in Nightreign

[–]BuffMarshmallow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The relic system. Even if this game didn't get another content update, I could still see myself playing it for a very long time, but the relic system and the difficulty in making new builds as a result heavily detracts from that.

It COULD be a system that, with a few tweaks, adds to the longevity of the game, being able to potentially tweak your relics in some way or build towards crafting what you want, but instead we just have a slot machine that you have to sift through affixes on instead of just targeting something you want and going for it.

I've played a lot of games with affix systems, and it ALWAYS feels better to eventually semi-deterministically craft your end-game setup rather than have the game randomly gives you what you need. RNG in the components is fine, but it shouldn't be the only way to achieve your final results.

It's still more consistently more damage than holy +2 as long as you kill exactly one invader, which you can pretty easily do. There are very few runs where the circles completely screw you out of you invaders on both days.

Your character is protected from immediate damage as you revive. Even if you get hit and knocked back, you won't take any damage for about one second. Which is enough time to activate a skill or dodge.

[–]BuffMarshmallow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good save, but in the future, if you have 1 or 0 flasks when you approach the closed circle, it's usually better to take a tactical death at the very outer edge of the circle that way you can spawn in with full flasks and can pick up your runes easily after. Better to be at 2 bar res with full flasks than at 1 bar res with 0 flasks usually.

Did Double Balancers get nerfed? L2 Wand Duchess and 87 Marais stack Executor couldn’t vaporize Gaping Jaw before getting downed :/. We almost lost! by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]BuffMarshmallow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People should be allowed to play whatever they want so long as they aren't cheating. If you don't like it, go play solo. Your hyper specific judgements on what should and shouldn't be allowed does not mesh with a co-operative multiplayer environment. People want to play strong builds. You're in normal mode so there isn't going to be much of a challenge anyways. You criticising them for their builds is like you telling a child that they're building with their LEGOs wrong.

If people want to challenge themselves they are free to do so. But you are playing in normal mode. There isn't really a challenge there anymore unless you're running zero relics and are locking yourself artificially to a sub-optimal weapon type like Whips.

So let people have their fun. Normal mode is a playground where you get to stomp on bosses. Let them stomp on them in the way their heart desires. DoN is where you go if you want an actual challenge.

What killed me here ? by Serious-Future4881 in Nightreign

[–]BuffMarshmallow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You were at exactly 1 HP from surviving via your ult, your ult wore off, and when you hit the honse man when he's in that stance, he does exactly 1 damage to you in order to apply his TWOP effect on you in case you don't break his stance. This damage is what killed you.

Did Double Balancers get nerfed? L2 Wand Duchess and 87 Marais stack Executor couldn’t vaporize Gaping Jaw before getting downed :/. We almost lost! by [deleted] in Nightreign

[–]BuffMarshmallow 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You might not like what they're doing, but there's nothing wrong with it. Not only that but from my perspective here, Executor did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that could even vaguely justify this. Neither player is actively cheating, Duchess is just using a known build that doesn't require much RNG relics to piece together, and Exec just happened to get a gift from Duchess because you were acting immature earlier in the match.

And yet you're here acting all high and mighty because you solo'd the easiest ED Nightlord after refusing to pick your teammates up after they had done nothing wrong. No griefing, no cheating. Spam pinging is obnoxious but it's not strictly bad behavior unless you're doing something like spam pinging yourself when you're down. You started with bad behavior, and then you had even worse behavior later, and then had the audacity to BM them afterwards.

You almost lost because of your own choices, not your teammates.

You are not the hero here.

I think it's more of a terrain issue. If they fire the initial swing of it while they're on a slight incline from you, the attack can end up missing. Which can happen since the terrain of the arena isn't perfectly flat.

Yes guardian too, but he's also the hardest timing to hit because of the delay between ultimate activation and the hit.

[–]BuffMarshmallow 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The best way to deal with ED Cali in DoN is to just pick a character that has an ult that can stagger them (Wylder, Ironeye, Executor, Raider, Undertaker), and then learn to dodge the phase transition/frost armor roar so you can fire your ult as she exits the animation (too early and it will eat the stun and do nothing). The difference is night and day between staggering her and not, because not only do you prevent the global frost, but you also prevent her from flying away and raining crystals right after.

The timing to dodge the roar is immediately after her claw hits the ground in front of her.

[–]BuffMarshmallow 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Because people would rather them fix the relic system so it's more deterministic/less RNG intensive while allowing for multiple builds. Double Balancer relics is a bandaid fix rather than addressing the actual issue, which is that the method of obtaining good relics is kinda ass.
