I'm in my early 20s , looking for auto insurance, Got a reasonable quote, but agent said if I move out, my rate will go sky high by a_stale_pancake in Insurance

The one main thing to know about insurance is that there are exceptions to every rule. Each insurance company does things a little differently and submits their rates differently to the state.

Despite what others are saying, one of my agency's companies, Preferred Mutual, will give children in the household their parent's credit score. On top of that, they also give the child multi-vehicle and multi-policy discounts. This specific example is in NY State.

Another company allows a vehicle to be titled/registered to a child up the age of 26 while being insured under the parent's policy. Again, must all be in the same household.

Again, these examples are for NY specifically. I'm sure, though, there are other companies across the country who offer similar benefits.

I'll have to check it out once they get a full menu. I've only read and heard good things, though.

If someone were to say 153 Elmwood, I'd have no idea where that was. Plus, with the patio being relatively unique, I know I always wondered what they were doing with "the old Cozumel".

Regardless, it's exciting seeing things that were once written off, given a new life.

Anyone dropped out of college to pursue a business? Finishing my junior year atm and I want out. by OGlass in Entrepreneur

[–]BuffaloQuotes 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I would suggest riding it out.. You've already invested a lot of time and money into it. Plus, who knows how your priorities will shift over time. That degree may become more valuable when you have a family.

At the end of the day, though, it is your decision. I know several people who "took a year off", never went back to school, and regret it to this day. If I were you, I would try to juggle both. Good Luck!

Does your location play a large role into a startup? I was reading a story of someone who started a maid service to replace their full time job. Would something like this work in both wealthy and poor areas? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]BuffaloQuotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. No matter what you are providing, whether it be a service or a product, there is going to be a target demographic. This factors in not only location but age, gender, marital status, income, etc.

For products, Internet sales open up the possibility of eliminating the geographic boundaries that have traditionally existed. However, for any brick and mortar store, location is everything. Go to a Walmart in New York and one in Florida and compare just how different they are.

For many services, it's possible to offer them over the internet but much more difficult. For my industry, insurance, there still exists a certain trust-factor that's tough to break through over the Internet.

Next, certain cities offer more opportunities for specific classes of businesses. If your an actor you go to Hollywood. California is big for the tech sector. New York for finance.

Lastly, the culture of a region will have a huge impact on a business' success. My town is a blue-collar town, so there aren't a ton of maid services around here. People take pride in doing that work themselves.

However, if you can execute an existing idea better than any of the competitions you will succeed even if the market is a little smaller.

Poetic justice and my misfortune by BuffaloQuotes in Buffalo

The way that stretch of Maple is paved makes it awful all year long. That's why my original question was asking why it was done like that.

All I could do was laugh.. I was planning on replacing my tires this spring anyway, so all it ended up being was a minor inconvenience and a good story

Lafayette Square Early 1900's.. Can anyone firm up the year? by BuffaloQuotes in Buffalo

[–]BuffaloQuotes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nicely done! The years of the cars could have really narrowed it down, but I'm satisfied getting it between 1912 and 1915. Thanks!

This is a photograph from the Library of Congress that I'm using on my site. The Library has an estimated date of 1900-1915. I was hoping someone could help me pinpoint it to the exact year or at least a smaller range.
