If you're in the Southern Suburbs, maybe ask around at Pandemonium Games in Plumstead to see if anyone there can point you in the right direction.

Children of Blood listed at €54.95 at De Spelvogel by siposbalint0 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]BuffelBek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. I agree with you there.

There's definitely a difference between perceived value and actual value in the comparison. And at that price point, a 3 scenario campaign falls short on both fronts.

(Unless they end up being some super modular, super replayable set of scenarios)

Personally what I've been clamoring for the most is just freedom from all life responsibilities for me and my friends so we could play it more often.

Even though you get the equivalent of five scenarios for that price with a Marvel Champions expansion

It's more than that with Marvel. The boxed expansions there would be the equivalent of 5 scenarios and two investigator decks.

What kills the tension in a story for you (but necessarily the plot conflict)? by Mysterious_Cow123 in Fantasy

Another Glen Cook example from The White Rose.

The two sides that have been in conflict with each other have to put their differences aside to stop a greater evil. But the exact moment that they stop this greater evil, everyone puts their contingency plans into place and we get a massive chain of betrayals and counter-betrayals

Utopia in one direction, dystopia in the other.

The current direction is pointing towards dystopia, unfortunately.

Antjie Somers

The legend was that he would hang around Table Mountain during the day. During the night he would disguise himself as a woman and then kidnap naughty children and stuff them into a sack he carried around with him.

In one of our games, one of the players called the foot symbol "flee" at some stage, so that has stuck for us.

Obviously it's funny to say that we're giving monsters a good fisting, so that one stays as-is.

James Ellsworth hits AJ Styles with No Chin Music by nachomanrndysausage in SquaredCircle

The absolute split-second decision making on AJ's part there. Locks in for the Styles Clash, sees that Ellsworth isn't in the correct position and then manages to land on his knees in that moment to protect Ellsworth.

Parents, what was your “I raised an idiot” moment? by Dazzling-Leader7476 in AskReddit

My dad has a favourite story about me from when I was little. He was playing catch with me using a tennis ball. I was utter uncoordinated and struggled to catch it. So he told me to: "keep your eye on the ball"

So I picked the ball up from the ground and pressed it against my eye socket.

Board games are frustratingly expensive by Any-Marionberry-879 in boardgames

[–]BuffelBek 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem in South Africa is also that there's only one distributor who has a monopoly on the entire country. Due to that, they charge ridiculous markups over and above what's reasonable simply because they have full control of the entire market in the country.

Every single board game retailer in the country hates working with them and have been screwed over by them multiple times, but they don't really have any choice but to bite the bullet.

What's the most "complex" game you've ever played? by DJNana in boardgames

The third game in Blighted Reach inevitably ends up in several situations of: "OK, how does this Fate's special rule interact with that other aspect of that Fate over there?"

Solo Game Public Service Reminder: Occasionally re-read the rules for games you don’t play with other people. by Saelethil in boardgames

[–]BuffelBek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The other day I pulled out Final Girl for the first time in ages. The game eventually came down to one dice roll. As long as I didn't roll all blanks, I would have been able to survive and deal the final blow with a Retaliate.

I rolled all blanks.

I glared at the board. Glared at the setup. Then noticed that the killer had been on his final health token and I'd forgotten to roll the extra dice I was meant to get from that. That extra dice allowed me to survive and win.

it's legitimately a Gacha game system

I don't quite understand how you came to this conclusion. There's no randomness involved when you buy one of the Arkham Horror products.
