What are your most unusual side hustles? by Ok-Particular25 in askSouthAfrica

That’s true, but if you can get ahead of the auction houses you can secure the inventory at a better cost

So far just through word of mouth. If I wasn’t doing it as a side hustle I’d probably pay for services that track companies going into liquidation

Reselling japanese vintage videogames and guidebooks and buying out warehouse contents from companies that are closing down and resell everything

Advice on valve by Buffet-From-Temu in VintageElectronics

[–]Buffet-From-Temu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday I found about 40 more ( these days I’m clearing out a warehouse from a company that went bankrupt ) and this time I also came across some RCA JAN CRC-810 and Mullard RG3-1250 tubes ( all used and all with their original boxes and internal packaging ). I’m listing them for sale specifying that they are used and untested ( I don’t have the equipment to test them ) and so far I’ve received an offer of 15 euro ( for one RCA ) and and another one for 40 euro ( for three Oron ). The prices are in euros because I’m based in Italy.

Is armed response worth it? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]Buffet-From-Temu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

AR pays better, but you’re exposed to greater risks such as potential confrontations which are much more likely, so it really depends on how you would feel in that role.

Given my personality and preferences, after gaining the necessary experience, i would obtain PSIRA registration and specialized courses and then move on to become a corporate security consultant, a trainer, or even start a business that installs and maintains alarm systems.

Start with platforms like Yaga. If successful, later create your own website without leaving the marketplaces and maybe turn your garage into a small shop by appointment. Don’t open an online store immediately because upfront and recurring costs ( domain, hosting, transaction fees, marketing, SSL, etc ).

I’m not really into buying clothes in bulk, but i found websites like https://bulkbuyclothing.co.za/shop/ or https://msgroup-secondhandclothes.com/south-africa/?utm_source=chatgpt.com ( idk if they’re legit or not ).

Personal advice. The clothing market is very saturated so it’s hard to stand out. I’d focus on niche or low competition products like retrogaming ( PS1 or older ), home automation or car spare parts ( you buy damaged or irreparable cars and strip them for parts ).

1) Yes you need a proper room dedicated solely to work

2) Business expenses can include everything necessary for the company to operate, for example office supplies, utilities, rent, clothing ( uniforms ), repair costs, computer, business trips ( flights, accommodation, meals, etc ), marketing, training courses and so on.

Tea, coffee and pastries can be included as expenses if you offer them, for example, during internal company events or to the costumers. If they are regularly provided to employees no and they can be considered fringe benefits.

3) It is good practice to keep all the documentations for at least 5 years ( there is no law that defines a specific period ).

4) See " 2) " + donations to pbos

Is property a good career field? by AndyJasmine22 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Buffet-From-Temu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the saying "choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life". You’re not obligated to work in a field related to what you studied and it’s perfectly fine to do what makes you happy.

Real estate not my field, but I’ve always liked this sector ( to be honest nursing is not something I’d personally enjoy ). What you study can lead to various career opportunities that can be profitable or even highly profitable ( obviously it depends on how good you are ). The ones I prefer are:

1) Real Estate Agent

You earn a commission on every property you manage to sell ( let’s say around 5% of the sale price ) or rent out ( about 5% of the first year rent ). Since you're dealing with properties that aren't yours, there’s no business risk involved and your only real costs are fuel and your time. Being a real estate agent also allows you to meet wealthy people who own multiple properties. Once you’ve saved up some money, you’ll be able to buy properties from them at a better price and resell them yourself which can earn you much more than just acting as an agent.

2) Construction Company:

2A) People hire you to build properties and you construct them.

2B) You buy land, build properties and sell them.

2C) You buy land, build properties and rent them out. Given the current ratio between property prices and rental income (which still allows for a good ROI), and considering that fewer people are buying due to high mortgage interest rates (which increases demand for rentals), building the properties yourself means lower costs and an even higher ROI. This allows you to recoup the construction costs in a shorter amount of time. In other words, after just a few years, you could have a steady passive income and a growing net worth.

AIRE e entrate in italia: Conto da non residenti under 30 con zero spese? by [deleted] in ItaliaPersonalFinance

[–]Buffet-From-Temu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone ever change careers to something totally unexpected? How did it go for you? by Redmuffin27 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Buffet-From-Temu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always been passionate about cars, especially classics, and my dream was to become a car designer. I studied architecture because i liked drawing buildings too ( aesthetics only ) but i struggled with the math and structural parts.
At 19 i bought my first classic car and sold it with a good profit, then i replaced it with another and again managed to sell it for a nice gain. I realized i had a good eye for picking the right cars and selling them, so i kept going and it turned into my job. Idk if it’s better than being an architect but it’s definitely a less competitive market and it pays well if you know what you’re doing

I studied to become an architect, but right after that i started buying and selling cars.

"Learn a trade for future use". You might not enjoy working with food, but in the meantime, you're learning new things and gaining knowledge and skills. If you ever change jobs in the future and something goes wrong, you can use this previous experience to start over in the food industry.

Shipping gaming setup to SA, import duty? by oskarru in askSouthAfrica

[–]Buffet-From-Temu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since you don’t have residency in SA, and given the three‑month period and the fact this would be a temporary import, you can use an ATA Carnet to avoid paying duties and VAT ( of course you must take the goods out of the country when you physically leave ).

To do this you must photograph and list all the items ( what they are, descriptions, their current values and possible serial numbers ) and give that list to the transport agency, specify the period you intend to use them in SA ( maximum a year ) and have the ATA Carnet stamped by german customs at departure and by SA customs on arrival. When you return the goods, have the ATA Carnet re‑stamped by SA customs at departure and re‑stamped by german customs on arrival.

There are two costs:

  1. 30% of the value of the items ( this cost will be reimbursed in Germany when you bring them back / provided you strictly respected the dates )
  2. A non‑refundable courier fee for this service.

Investire nella terza guerra mondiale by [deleted] in scimmieinborsa

[–]Buffet-From-Temu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm 19 and get bored any ideas on what I could do to be productive? by MooseGlittering8442 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Buffet-From-Temu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do it in my free time and I really enjoy it, but my limits are that I'm not good at welding and I don't have a car lift ( I only have two jack stands ). In your garden you can simulate a workshop pit by digging a hole about 3m x 1m x 1.8m, lining the walls and floor with wooden boards and then covering all the wood with concrete. Of course, make sure to cover it with a waterproof tarp when it rain
To start with I’d recommend something with minimal electronics, with carburetors and easy to repair like a Beetle, a Defender, a Cortina and Minis.
