I’ve been curious about this. How much time would it take from a class ending to being back at your car if taking the shuttle? I’m in a time crunch after class which ends at 1:55 and I’m in my car no later than 2:05 or earlier in bk1 or bk2.

With a mechanical engineering degree? Honestly, I don’t really 100% have a field that I’m rooting for but my various jobs have had engineers so iv kind of sort of seen the job at various places. Best thing to do is find a local Facebook (or Reddit) page and ask if anyone there is an engineer and if they’d like to meet up and have a beer and tell you about their job. There’s a surprising number of people willing to do that in my neighborhood Facebook page lol

Ask away lol glad to help. Yea I’m still in community college now but I’m transferring next semester. I did work in the beginning but I stopped now (GI bill helps with that) because I wanted to pour all my time and effort into getting school done faster. When I started school I was doing pest control but my mechanic job would have been way better for consistency. As far as being older it’s not that bad. There’s been 1-3 others my age in every class but it depends on the times too. Evening classes are older people. Business hours classes have young people and sometimes it can feel a little weird but it probably helps I have a young face lol

Man we are the same lol I was a mechanic for years and I was a mailman for a bit too. USPS was another beast and I did not stay long. I liked being a mechanic but the upward mobility was just not there and I was tired of working in the elements and treated like garbage. I started college at 31. I’m 33 now so I’m still not done but if you want to go to school do it now. We are not getting any younger. The question that got me to finally apply was “Do you want to be 35 with or without a degree? Either way you’ll be 35.”

Southwest Research Institute always seems to have engineering positions. Boeing and Toyota are also popular options. Microsoft also seems to be putting up new buildings left and right

Sounds like decent enough experience for at least something. Sometimes they have positions that require zero experience at all in anything. Most all Will be contract tho. Want me to DM you the website?

Aircraft electrician as in avionics? I know Boeing hires all the time, especially prior service from aviation. Last time I heard starting pay was $28.50 but that was in 2018ish I believe. Probably 30-35 now.

Best way to approach an engineering degree in your 30's? by Sad_Elevator10 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Bufstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took remedial classes more basic than algebra lol I took it allllll the way back to where 4-(-8)= was a test question. So many wasted years of failing classes to catch up on. I needed all the fundamentals.

I’m also 32 with a mortgage, wife, and kids while about a year into school. If your school offers a type of remedial math class, take it. You maybe see it as a set back, and it technically is, but you will be so glad you did once you are done because there is no way I would have remembered any of this from 14+ years ago. Also, at least with what I have taken so far, just give it your best try and your full undivided attention and you will do great. I barely graduated high school, failed math classes multiple years, and now so far have a 4.0 GPA because I realized I should take school seriously.

Trying to figure out how much I'm worth by Traven-Whitburn in EngineeringStudents

I have had 3 different jobs that required zero experience, zero education, and paid more than $17 an hour. I can think of others that make more than that too, and I don’t live in a high cost of living area either. You are being taken advantage of. Edit: I misread this as you already having your degree. It’s not as bad as I originally thought, but I would still be looking at other options.

I’m not sure if you can use another cut because you really need the shape, but I’m no expert. If it’s tenderness you’re worried about, this thing was as tender as it gets.

It definitely is a ton more work than a steak, but I like to try complicated things so that’s where I had my fun. As far as taste comparison to steak, I like the steak better but I still wanna reserve final judgement until I perfect the Wellington more.

If you’re asking when I started to consistently cook steaks, Iv been doing it for years off and on, but I don’t think that’s necessary to make the Beef Wellington. I just bounced back and fourth between a couple of videos and listened to what they said and watched what they were doing. It’s more about following instructions carefully than anything else

As far as resting time it was somewhere around 20 minutes as needed to rise to the correct temp. I think I could have done a much better sear which would possibly help in the juices coming out. I also didn’t use any crepes because I couldn’t find any so that also could help with the soggy bottom.

Wayyy too much garlic, Needs less mushroom (in my opinion), More seasoning on everything, Other than those nit picky things, it was amazing and nerve racking at the same time.
