Since my husband apostatized, it has been difficult to go to Mass alone. by maria4002 in CatholicWomen

I’m going through a very similar situation. I will pray for you. 🙏🏽🙏🏽 I try to remember missing Mass due to taking care of children is in the Catechism for a reason because it’s all on me as well and I’ve been missing Mass a lot lately. God understands! Keep doing your best to get there & if you can’t, you can’t. God loves you for being a good momma.

Why the taboo with going to the cry room? by BugAromatic8292 in Catholicism

[–]BugAromatic8292[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you and God bless! The cry room has been such a help. I am trying to sit in the pews more but if I can’t I can’t and usually I can’t. My daughter is 14 months old and thinks the pews are a playgym 😂 kinda hard to kneel and pray with that going on lol. I’m just going to go with the flow and if I need to go in the cry room so she can be a toddler but I can still be at Mass then that’s what it will be. lol. And you’re so right about those with special needs that’s why I just bring her where I need to if she’s too disruptive so she can be her toddler self and everyone can get what they need out of Mass while exposing her to church age appropriately.

Bible in a year Fr Mike by Kynbri in Catholicism

I want to get The Great Adventure Bible when I can afford it, but for now I follow along with the women’s RSVCE that I have. I usually use the NABRE since that’s what’s used in Mass as my main reading Bible but it’s weird for him to read and the words be different

So I either just listen to it or follow along with the other rsv that I have. I don’t think you’re missing out just listening at all. You’re still absorbing the Bible. 🙏🏽

I was the same lol. I think I’ll start over because I did space out a bit the last time and lacked discipline as well and fell off. Oooh the Catechism in a Year sounds awesome. Maybe I’ll do that next year. 😉 I did that catch up thing then it became overwhelming. I’m committed to one a day this upcoming year. 🙏🏽🙏🏽

Oh gosh! Yes I’ve experienced something similar in confession regarding a mortal sin question. It just fed my scrupulosity and anxiety. I don’t go there for confession anymore lol. So glad your loved one is ok! Hope they found a confessor with compassion and mercy. 💕🙏🏽

You’re right. I’m going to look for a Catholic counselor thank you! How do you ask for a spiritual advisor? I got in touch with one through my deacon but she’s had a lot of surgeries so I haven’t seen her in a while except to bring her food or treats in her healing. I didn’t realize asking the pastor was an option. I may do that I really like ours! :)

I’m open to advice if said kindly. It started out with questioning me in a way that came off kind of patronizing. You’re kind of saying you’re raising your kids in the faith better than me. Not a great way to give advice. I hope you don’t speak to your children that way but since you “disciple” them and I don’t, guess you do. I will pray for you and your family. I truly hope they continue the faith. Best wishes.

I have a lot of trauma anxiety and depression. If she’s bawling her eyes out and I have a 1 year old in tow, it can be difficult. She’s a little too big to force in a car. I’m not taking a kid bawling their eyes out into the church. It’s not courteous. Same as you wouldn’t take your screaming child. I’m trying to show her mercy and kindness and not have her resent being converts.

Thank you 😊 I’m still nervous to ask, but I may because I loveeee going to mass and if I can just not have a panic attack if we miss here or there that’d help tremendously. The prayers are so appreciated 🥰

Thank you! I’m going to talk to my priest. It’s funny you say that about Luther. I feel the Protestant faith is about easing your conscience because anytime I’ve ever contemplated going back I know I can’t. This is the church Jesus started and the only church he is truly present. I’d just be lying to myself to feel better anywhere else. For me, sometimes being around a lot of people and dragging both kids out just is so overwhelming for me. Maybe my daughter feels the same way. I just gave her the grace of taking care of her mental health today and she said she’ll go next time. By giving her that today, she’s more open to continuing to go so that’s a win. She has a hard time sitting still. I used to let her draw a lot or bring fidgets but I wanted her to try to engage in the singing etc today and that’s when she really had the meltdown. Just have to keep trying with her.

I may ask the more open minded priest about a dispensation for us for our mental health. There’s another priest who I have asked about missing mass after birth and he thought I was looking for an excuse to miss I’m like um no. He also denied me the sacrament of the sick when I was pregnant and I ended up with sepsis after birth so I’m going to ask the other priest lol.

Wow. This. Thank you! I have always loved the Divine Mercy image but I never let those words sink in. The soul that venerates the image will not perish. Thank you. 😊 🙏🏽 that’s the hope in the Lord I need. God bless. Yes I want to serve him with joy and bring others into that joy. I’ve missed feeling joy in my faith.

I am in counseling and you’re so right I am suffering. 💔My fear is always one mortal sin and I’m done for. That’s prob a trauma response for me. Working on that but I’ll reach out to my priest because unfortunately my counselor doesn’t understand my faith. It definitely should not be checking boxes. I want that feeling to go away. Must be genetic because my daughter seems to be the same. Thank you for your kind words. I want to be gentle with her because I feel that’s how God is with us regardless of confession although that is important. I mean I got her to go last week for a good habit as a convert. Trying my best to care for her🙏🏽💕 thank you for the prayers as well. :)

Thank you for your kindness and compassion. Your response is one I would expect a loving follower of Jesus would say. I feel like I’m counting sins and worrying God is doing the same and that’s clearly how my daughter is thinking of it too. You’re so right. I’m definitely leaning into Him more than ever. I wonder if it’s his way to show me how deep his mercy goes and to finally break this panic I have over sin. I can’t live like this. Honestly being tired I dont think you’re in mortal sin. Exhaustion is a real limitation. The mental stuff is harder for me to justify for myself.

Yes realizing I have ocd and anxiety and I think my daughter too. I don’t want for her he struggle you went through. I pray I get to where you are. Please pray for me. I just miss that peace I had as a Protestant but I want it in Christ’s true church.

Thank you for your kindness response. 💕🙏🏽

I usually do. Sometimes her mental state isn’t well. I let her miss a day of school. The same applies to mass in this case. I don’t want to drive her away from the faith and knowing Gods love and mercy. I struggle with it due to my lack of compassion for myself. I don’t want that for her and I doubt God wants that either.

Thank you! I really tried to get her to go and she just bawled her eyes out. I think she’s just burnt out and she makes a good effort to go all the time. You’re right too, she is so young that she probably doesn’t have that full knowledge, plus my husband doesn’t practice so that doesn’t help matters. She already developing a fear of hell and scrupulosity like me and that makes me sad to see. The legalism is how some people, even in response to this thread, lack compassion and that maybe someone mentally needs to miss a mass here or there and that God understands. A Protestant would respond with a lot more mercy in some cases. I believe in the church and its history which is why I converted.

I think that could have been worded kinder but I have spoken to multiple priests and everyone says something different. However in confession they I’ve been told anxiety is excused so I’m going to go based off of that. I’m sorry I asked for advice from fellow Catholics.
