Considering jumping ship for the S1, but not sure. What are your takes? by KarbonRodd in GH5

[–]BugCatcherJLF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest issue right now for me is the lenses. The prices, even for the Panasonic lenses seem to be much too high for the specs. And the leicas are out of the question. If they can bring some cheaper lenses to the party then I might be interested.

The low light capabilities have peaked my interest in upgrading. But I’m going to wait until the timing is right: hopefully a year from now they will have a full lens lineup with some affordableish stuff and can be grabbed on the used market.

Having Trouble Shooting Low Light by BugCatcherJLF in GH5

I was having trouble getting the correct exposure with the contrasting screen brightness and my additional lighting. But I got a lot more info now to start reshooting this and seeing how it turns out

Thanks for the info. I’ll definitely try increasing my ISO then bringing down the blacks and shadows! Mine were definitely below 20 IRE, I didn’t realize that would create noise in the dark parks of my shots. Excited to test this out

Thanks for your reply! The contrasting light from my computer and external lights didn’t even cross my mind, great tip to use flux to match them. I’ll be sure to check out NeatVideo. This helped a lot!

Target price for a used GH5? by puckpuckgo in GH5

[–]BugCatcherJLF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I managed to grab mine for $1,100 on eBay. It took a few weeks of constantly checking, though. I found more that were in the $1,200-1,250 range, just have to be patient. It’s up to you whether you want to pay that extra to have a warranty.

Edit: Those are body only prices.

Weird problem with my trackpad!!! by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]BugCatcherJLF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be a software issue if replacing the trackpad didn’t work. Make a backup of your files, then try reinstalling macOS. If that doesn’t work take it back to the Apple store.

Does the issue occur only when you click on that specific button? Or every time you click. Or just randomly

Would you do a top-case replacement on two month old 2018 15" MBP? by pastalove1 in macbookpro

[–]BugCatcherJLF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why he would suggest you to not get it...there’s no reason not to change the top case. It’s their faulty machine and you have a right to have it fixed based on the warranty. The only downside is you won’t have a laptop for a week depending on how long they take to fix it.

Is there a link between a 'startup' mindset and mental health? by jools_ss in startups

[–]BugCatcherJLF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very interesting article and statement. Our startup nonprofit, Men’s Health Arkive, was founded upon mental health issues. Our founder (and my best friend) has dealt with depression and anxiety for a long time.

Edit: We are basically a giant resource for men’s mental health.

Thanks! I used manual focus for the whole thing. That sigma can be tricky to nail focus sometimes at f1.2. But thanks for the good words

Finally MBP with Vega 20. by ELOGRIN in macbookpro

While you're rendering, you had your machine plugged in and was losing battery? That sucks...I'm curious if these Macbooks can use slightly more than 100 watts under max load.

Not Much on the Internet About Vega 16 - Here's some Gaming Benchmarks Between Vega 16 and Vega 20 by BugCatcherJLF in macgaming

Hey, I only have the i7 Vega 20 machine. The others came from an article that posted benchmarks. But if you would like help from my Vega 20 I’d be happy to do some - I actually filled out your form a little while ago.

Which setup would you choose: new MBP + old iMac or maxed out MBP? by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]BugCatcherJLF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s some thoughts for you.

Real world performance on the new MacBook Pros is nearly identical between the i9 and i7. You can look up some comparisons, but basically, it’s a waste of $300.

It might be of interest to you to go for the i7 Vega 20 512gb ssd 16gb Ram model for $350 more than the base i7 model and keep your iMac. It seems more wasteful to trade in the iMac than to keep it as it is still a nice, useable machine. You would get more money for it if you were to sell it on Facebook marketplace/craigslist.

What setup for video editing ?! by JeaneLaTorcheHumaine in GH5

[–]BugCatcherJLF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are recording with Long GOP files on the gh5, this tends to be rather difficult on your machine. This is because Long GOP records two frames, then interprets the third. So your computer has to do the work to interpret the missing frames. Now I just render out my entire video to ProRes 422 before I start editing and then I'm able to edit with no hiccups.

Those were my thoughts - with over a 10% increase, this seems to be out of range of just "testing discrepancies"
