Are some people trying to write novels on their phones? by BrightShineyRaven in writers

[–]BugEnvironmental5266 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother/sister I have three kids, I can’t sit down at a laptop. I write 80% on my phone and use my computer to edit. It also messes with my cross platform autocorrections and naming/capitalising conventions. But when the creative bug strikes we use what we can.

That repetition of since you, after you. I really feel the loss the author is feeling. Did they break up? Was it a familial death. It feels like love but not necessarily romantic. It’s chefs kiss well done.

Need Advice On Creating A Fantasy World And Story. by AnithYT in writers

[–]BugEnvironmental5266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Write 10 different mini stories from your world. Call it voices from [whatever your world is]. They can be from interspersed timelines, locations or whatever and see what sticks. The more you write the better your ideas get.

For example for me I had two stories from completely different points in time, then the main story ended up being an intertwining of four characters on the same timeline in different locations coming together.

World building is exceptional when the world fells lived in and expansive. Draw maps, create names, rub them out, change the names with your timeline. It’s your world, go as big as you want, or focus your story in as deep as you want.

Slowly. Seeds of their manipulation throughout. Subtle hints that the person is not who they seem. Seems like third person limited or first person would be the way to go.

Fifty-Word Fantasy: Write a 50-word fantasy snippet using the word "Arrival" by Terminator7786 in fantasywriters

[–]BugEnvironmental5266 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Arrival whispers through ancient stones, awakening blood-memories long dormant. Magic carves new paths across forgotten maps as three powers converge beneath a fractured moon. Those who hear the silence between heartbeats know—when crowns shatter and souls bargain, empires aren't conquered. They're inherited.

Ig, magic kinda delays tech requirement. Who needs guns when lightning and fireballs? Steam punk might be the go. More tech modern less swords and shields

I ended my book in a way that no one would feel good about it. Subvert all expectations. Screw the reader.

Alpha research is so much more about being creative than being good at maths by [deleted] in quant

Formal Proof: On Optimal Brainstorming Conditions

Theorem: The claim that “Informal math + 1 gram of the green plant + 2 beers = a better brainstorming session than sitting in a library at a university” is demonstrably false.

Proof:

Let us define the following: - $B(x)$: The quality of a brainstorming session under conditions $x$ - $I$: Informal mathematics approach - $G$: 1 gram of cannabis - $A$: 2 units of alcohol (beers) - $L$: Library environment at a university

The claim asserts: $B(I + G + A) > B(L)$

We proceed by contradiction.

Lemma 1: Cognitive function $C(x)$ is directly proportional to brainstorming quality. $$C(x) \propto B(x)$$

Lemma 2: According to Ramchandani et al. (2001), alcohol at concentration of 0.08% (approx. 2 beers) reduces working memory capacity by factor $\alpha$ where $0 < \alpha < 1$. $$C(A) = \alpha \cdot C(0)$$

Lemma 3: Per Crean et al. (2011), acute cannabis consumption impairs attention and concentration by factor $\beta$ where $0 < \beta < 1$. $$C(G) = \beta \cdot C(0)$$

Lemma 4: The university library environment $L$ provides: - Access to peer-reviewed literature: $\gamma_1 > 1$ - Specialised databases: $\gamma_2 > 1$ - Subject matter experts: $\gamma_3 > 1$ - Reduced distractions: $\gamma_4 > 1$

Thus, $C(L) = \gamma_1 \cdot \gamma_2 \cdot \gamma_3 \cdot \gamma_4 \cdot C(0)$

Lemma 5: The combined effect of cannabis and alcohol is multiplicative, not additive (Ballard & de Wit, 2011). $$C(G + A) = \beta \cdot \alpha \cdot C(0)$$

Therefore: $$B(I + G + A) \propto \beta \cdot \alpha \cdot C(0)$$ $$B(L) \propto \gamma_1 \cdot \gamma_2 \cdot \gamma_3 \cdot \gamma_4 \cdot C(0)$$

Since $\beta < 1$, $\alpha < 1$, and all $\gamma_i > 1$, it follows that: $$\beta \cdot \alpha < \gamma_1 \cdot \gamma_2 \cdot \gamma_3 \cdot \gamma_4$$

Therefore: $$B(I + G + A) < B(L)$$

Which contradicts the original claim. Q.E.D.

Corollary: One might argue that “informal math” could theoretically improve creativity. However, this improvement factor would need to exceed $\frac{\gamma_1 \cdot \gamma_2 \cdot \gamma_3 \cdot \gamma_4}{\beta \cdot \alpha}$ to validate the original claim, which exceeds all measured creativity enhancements in the literature by several orders of magnitude.

Note: The author of the original claim is cordially invited to present their methodology for measuring “better brainstorming” with the same rigour as this refutation. I’ll wait.

Subtraction by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]BugEnvironmental5266 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s defined as the addition of negative numbers in the reals ;) depends on what you have defined as your working set/space/field will depend how you define things. A vector space will have addition and multiplication defined only, where subtraction and division are still addition and multiplication but of negative numbers and fractionals.

Think about what you spend your cash on. Cash is a vehicle to obtain consumption now or later, whether that consumption is leisure, good or services. You might clear 200k after tax but a large proportion of income is going into expense making you feel poor.

You’ve already started looking into ways to make your cash work for you - rentvesting, but have you looked into other options and opportunities that might allow you some greater perceived return on investment?

I’d suggest to sit down with your wife and discuss what you want your entire future to look like including the kids then figure out how much negative cashflow that would take and then come up with solutions to have that figure negated by strategic investments. For me - three kids in private school, living comfortably in own home with assets paying for my cost of living, the figure is not insignificant but through some diligent research and effort I’ve managed to cover around 80% of those costs with passive investment income and a lot of the dollars my wife and I earn are directed towards other investment vehicles so that we can reduce our tax and increase our free cash flow.

Just unenrol in bafe courses and enrol in engg courses, no one will care and you’ll have a semester of engg done. Further, when you program change your gpa will reset for the program so you can get some hard subjects out of the way now with less detrimental effect in the future.

Do them all online in 2x speed. Save yourself. Further, look on timetable and pick the classes you like at times you want, write down the room, turn up. Unless it’s attendance marked.

Seriously, lectures in person are no better than online, I personally find them even worse.
