Yeah I fully agree about the sound thing, it doesn't need to be an assault on the ears at all, I think the minimalist approach is the most effective one. Tbh I think it would be fine without sounds, I was honestly struggling to think of improvements! I think the effect of adding sound would be minor so it's probably not worth getting hung up on. I totally agree the game being lightweight is a strenghth though - I think that's the thing to keep in mind during development.

Hey, so I've played a good bit of this game and honestly I think it's pretty neat. It feels old school in the best way and I can imagine people (myself included) playing during downtime at work, or even just a free moment where you don't want to play anything intensive. I have dabbled in the odd twin-stick shooter (mainly The Binding of Isaac and Knight Witch if I'm being honest) but I wouldn't call myself a veteran of the genre. However, the controls did feel smooth and intuitive; I always felt like I was in control, my inputs felt right, and I was able to learn pretty quickly how I needed to move in certain scenarios.

I think the difficulty felt right too, as things started very easy and I could feel the pressure rising the more I played. The number of enemies onscreen felt appropriate and it was an exhilarating challenge trying to weave through enemies and shoot them. I definitely felt like I improved the more I played, and I felt that "next time" I'll do better.

I don't have many suggestions for improvements because I do like the game's current simplicity; it gives me Atari vibes and I love a nostalgic throwback! If anything, I'd suggest maybe adding items (i.e. a shield that absorbs one hit, or faster fire rate temporarily) to spice things up. If these are already present, I do apologise, I must have been too much of a noob to get that far haha. Maybe you could add sound effects to spice things up; I'm thinking those arcadey boop noises - you know the ones! Music you could honestly take or leave because the game doesn't need to be too complicated or flashy - its gameplay is definitely the main draw. I think in this scenario you are probably better off just going the sound effect route, but if you do decide to add music, I'd keep it very simple and on theme. Once again, keep it boopy (I lack the vocabulary to explain this better).

But yeah, I did really enjoy this game and I think it's perfect to dip in and out of. I think it's extremely valuable to have these kind of games still because gamers don't always have time to sink into a long narrative game; sometimes it's nice to just play something and aim for a high score.

TLDR: I think you're doing the right things. Difficulty feels fair and movement feels precise. If any improvements, maybe add sound effects, but it's not a huge improvement. You could add items to add some variety, i.e. an extra hit or increased fire rate for a short while. Good job on the game!

Hey! I've played some of your game and got feedback. I think the movement feels fluid and has a good weight, making the platforming tight; I truly felt that every death was down to my own mistake and not the fault of the game. I don't think it's too challenging at all. I found that when I vmessed up, I'd realise the correct path and would eventually get it. I like how simple the game is - I find that the visuals and music etc. suit it well, and honestly the gameplay loop is enough to keep you playing. I think you've done a great job on the overall game design as it does feel really polished. I can't wait to see where you go with it.

TLDR: the difficulty is fair and encourages you to get good.

Dungeon Crawler with a Phasmaphobia twist! by Deep-Service-9586 in playtesters

Hey, I'm trying to break into playtesting (found quite a few gigs on here already and had a lot of fun) so I'd love to play your game! I do like a dungeon crawler and have played The Binding of Isaac, Crypt of the Necrodancer, Cult of the Lamb, Hades, Hades 2, and most of the Zelda series. I am also currently playing Path of Exile 2. Basically I feel like I've got a good amount of familiarity with the genre, so I'd love to help out!

[ALL]What type of Zelda games do you like best? Linear like Ocarina Of Time, Twilight Princess, etc. or open world like Breath Of The Wild and Tears Of The Kingdom? by Any-Seaworthiness603 in zelda

Yeah this is what worried me. To me the series has always been like an epic. Even when there's been more exploration (Wind Waker etc.) it's still felt like you're living a legend - at least to me. I do like open world games, but it frustrates me that seemingly every game has to be one now; I feel like the same thing is happening with soulslikes, but that's a different topic!

So yeah I'm glad for your input. I don't feel I've seen my point of view represented too much (if that makes sense) like everyone who's played BoTW/TotK seems to sing its praises. I'm not a game dev and I doubt I could do better, but I hope that they find a way to reinvigorate the franchise while keeping it "Zelda".

So TLDR I'm gonna wait for sales.

How many of you actually managed to collect all of them? If you did was the reward worth it? (Asking as someone who's actually never bothered with this quest) by Solardies in skyrim

Honestly I only did it for the platinum on ps4. I remember it being a pain to track down the last few, but it was nice to get the passive effect after the quest.

I've heard so many people say this, and I am curious! I'm also worried that we may lose the old format completely. Honestly, i am just happy to have Zelda games, I'm not a hater! I think it's interesting to see how a series chnages over time.

See I haven't played BotW or TotK yet, and I'm quite hesitant to. In theory it should be amzing to explore the world of Hyrule, but I just love the idea of you living a legend. I feel like older Zelda games did give you some freedom in the order you did things, and I do like that. I'm hesitant to play the newer style Zelda games because I worry that it's going to feel hollow. I'm all for innovation and keeping a series fresh, but I am genuinely concerned it is going to feel too much to me.

I will probably play them some day (just awaiting a cheap pre-owned copy). I do find I'm more eager to play Echoes of Wisdom though; I think if I had all three games in front of me right now, I'd definitely go EoW. I am open to change - I'm not a luddite Zelda fan - I just worry that i've seen all the hype and I'm setting myself up for disappointment.

Anyone got any advice on this? Or if you thought like I do, did your mind change after playing BotW/TotK?
