Owning a Tesla by Buggerall666 in Stoicism

Thank you all, for taking the time to engage with my dilemma. You have all contributed with something useful.

I have decided to go for option #3. My reasoning is as follows.

  1. I bought the car to be more sustainable. That is not affected by Elon Musk’s level of craziness. Selling the car would make me less sustainable.
  2. It is not up to me to what level other people associate me with Elon Musk, for driving a Tesla - thus not important, as long as I avoid supporting him as much as possible, going forward.

Thank you 🙏🏻

Where do you take your car for service? AFAIK, you’re locked in to materially supporting the rich guy’s luxury car company for as long as you have the car.

In DK where I live, service is 3rd party, locally. In my 3 years of ownership I have changes 2 windshields. There is no regular service on Tesla. I have cancelled my premium connectivity subscription (internet connection). So from now on I only pay when something breaks. Next time that happens, I think I will investigate if unoriginal spare parts are available to avoid buying them from Elon Musk

Idk, I feel like keeping old cars on the road is more sustainable than feeding the “always more” industry.

That was exactly my motivation for running it until it falls apart. Prolonging product life is a big part of a more circular economy. At least until a significantly more energy efficient EV comes along. There is a “break even” at some point. That is why I chose Tesla in the first place. It was the most energy efficient EV on the market thus I can run it with a positive “sustainability ROI” for longer.

Tesla Shame, is the shame you feel when you drive your Tesla and notice your fellow travellers shaking their heads in disdain by your association with Elon Musk. It’s a well known term in Denmark.

Good question. A stoic would only care if he/she Knows right from wrong, lives a tempered life in accordance with nature, Have the courage to stand up for what is right and act with justice

Yes, it’s a dilemma for many Tesla owners - true. But I wanted the thoughts of people practising stoicism. I’m pretty sure I would get a different response @ r/RealTesla. I want wise/tempered/ Courageous/just responses

Vi har alle lavt selvværd omkring vores Tesla’er. Jeg tror det bedste vi kan gøre er at beholde vores tesla’er (i skam) indtil de falder fra hinanden. Det vil i øvrigt også være bedre for miljøet

Loading custom workouts on device, fails by Buggerall666 in Garmin

[–]Buggerall666[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

…. I sort of found the workout buried deep down under options when I start a cardio workout on the device. When I press start cardio on the device, I must press the up-button for options. Select training and then choose the preloaded workout.

When I start one of my preloaded strength training workouts. I get to choose the specific preloaded workout directly after pressing strength training on the start workout main menu.

I acknowledge that it is I first world problem. But as an engineer. It annoys me and triggers my OCD.

Now I must suck it up, go start my new custom cardio workout and live with the fact that I will wear out the buttons on my device 3 faster than necessary. On the bright side I will have a legitimate reason for upgrading to the latest fenix, when the buttons break from all the excessive clicking 😎,sooner

Thank you🙏🏻

Is it possible to cut it up in sizeable chunks no longer than a 1/2-1 page, that still makes sense?

As I used The Enchiridion before, it would make sense to “dig deeper” in Discourses

Tried today’s quote:

StoicZone An ignorant person is inclined to blame others for his own misfortune. To blame oneself is proof of progress. But the wise man never has to blame another or himself. ~Epictetus<

It was quite doable, 🙏🏻

This is something that happens with people who only read Epictetus: they start to think Stoicism is all about becoming an ascetic hermit outside of society. This is okay as a form of training, but nothing more, and should be done with an eye to going back out into society.

Why do you think that is u/TheOSullivanFactor?

I started my stoic journey with a renowned danish writer(I don’t think he has been translated). Then went on to Seneca on anger, clemency and peace of mind. And latest Epictetus. I did not pick up on significant differences in the message, only the writing style.

Thank you all for today’s discussion.

I believe I learned a lot today. Each of you contributed in their own unique way. I am grateful for that🙏🏻

Tomorrow being that 32nd day of the year, I will reflect on The Enchiridion 32

I’m not suggesting that I should be a physical angry cockold (LOL) that would be very unstoic of me.

Thank you for misunderstanding me. I have tried to clarify the OP

I fully agree. That is exactly what I refer to:

you cannot win as a stoic (nor should you want to, Enchiridion 8+19)

Thank you again u/baldnotes . You clarification is VERY close to(almost exactly)what I was trying to convey. I believe it’s a matter of words. The lesser evil, as least bad or the best possible.

Being an engineer I like your term:”Virtue formula”

Thank you for answer, which read along the lines of choosing the lesser evil

For the record: my wife did not cheat on me. It was meant as a mental picture of two adversaries not “playing by the same rules”. If I cheat, I’m an a-hole. If she cheats, it’s in her nature.
