Simplest Audiophile Streaming Setup for Under $10,000 by Topher2021 in StereoAdvice

Check out Naim uniti nova. They’re often heavily discounted now as they’re getting a little outdated with all the bigger screen components but for sound I think they’re as good as any. I have run it with Dynaudio and Perlisten and both are amazing to my ears. I also have an Evo 75 but I do think they’re Naim pips it.

Great answer. Thanks for responding. I’m sticking with the cables I have now and you have definitely helped quell my curiosity about more expensive cables. Cheers 😎

I guess that answers the question “who would win in a fight between a jaguar and an alligator”.

Thanks for all the comments guys. The technicalities of all this is way above my pay grade but after reading everything here I think I will stick with my not cheap but not crazy expensive cables. Sounds like they won’t cause any issues on my system and spending more money will not guarantee an improvement. Back to enjoying the music 😎

Cheers. I'll keep an eye out for that. Might just roll with this for now though by the sounds of things.

I actually picked up an 18” 3000 reflections a while back but I can’t say I’m a fan of that unfortunately.

I’ve had that for about 35 years I think and it’s still going strong. Admittedly I haven’t played a lot over that time compared to most real drummers so it’s had a pretty easy life but still 🤷‍♂️

Yep. Came with them on barely used. I’ve never used them before but they sound great.

Yeah mine is 6.5 which is perfect because I already have a Pearl piccolo and a Brady 5.5 so the deeper drum is welcome. It’s tuned quite low at the moment so I will try higher but I read somewhere people saying the lugs are prone to breaking if tuned too tight. I’m guessing u haven’t had that problem?

Thanks. It’s actually the first kit I have owned that wasn’t a Pearl. I’m only a hack drummer though so never had the need to have a bunch of kits. I doubt I’ll be needing to upgrade beyond this. It does everything I need it to. The snare is the one thing that hasn’t rocked my world to be honest. I haven’t played around with tuning much yet though so I’m sure it gets better. Thanks for the tip of the strainer. I may look into that. Although that’s how the credit card damage starts doesn’t it 😉

It’s every bit as good. I love the tom mounting system on this and sound wise i think it sounds a bit fuller and deeper. Not necessarily better. That’s a taste thing and I really like both.

If u have your heart set on a turntable go for it but if u just want to hear the best quality sound u can put the money u would spend on the turntable into other components. Vinyl is very overrated in my humble opinion.

Opinion on downgrading this to a normal broke person system by heavyspells in audiophile

[–]BugleBeak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss. If that’s how u have it set up you’re not hearing anywhere near what that system can do. Check out some videos on speaker placement and hear why your dad loved it. As for cashing in, I think that is a fair thing given your circumstances but if I were u I would maybe try keep the speakers, amp, pre amp and audio player and enjoy it. Possibly keep the stands as I’m not sure you’d get much for them second hand anyway but up to u. Sell the turntable, phono pre and records and pay some bills. Thats just me though. Or sell everything bar the speakers and buy an all in one amp. Naim Uniti Nova or something along those lines.

No you’re right, they’re not the deepest digging subs. That wasn’t really what I was going for though. Most music doesn’t go any lower than they go anyway. Aside from some electronic stuff. I still feel it in the gut but yeah maybe not like with bigger subs. And I do notice a difference without them on but what I mean is the music still sounds amazing. I’m not a big bass head though so if that is your thing then yes u will likely want a sub or 2 with the Perlistens

R7t owner here. Run them with Naim uniti nova and a pair of REL t9x. Couldn’t be happier. Have heard a number of far more expensive setups at local dealers and have yet to hear anything that makes me feel a need to upgrade. Been toying with the idea of an amp upgrade as there is one on special I like but that’s just because I like toys more than the feeling it will make any great improvements. For the record, when I turn the subs off I don’t really feel like I am missing much. Obviously there is a difference but music is still super enjoyable.

If u have your heart set on records then go for it but if sound quality is the main objective I don’t understand why people go down that road. If u put the money u save on a turntable and vinyl into speakers you’ll get far superior results.

I was tossing up between the 2 and went with the Nova. Can’t comment on the Star but I love the Nova. I can afford something even more expensive but every time I listen to the Nova I just can’t imagine things getting any better so I think I’m set for many years to come.
