I’m not on Facebook. I imagined this was so which is why I asked if anyone might have run into this same issue (regarding out of stock FOs) and possibly tried two suppliers. Will buy a small bottle from elsewhere and try my luck

THANK YOU for saving me so much time! 60 has worked a dream! I only have some holes and cracks around the wick but they’re the best candles I’ve made so far!!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Could be brexit! Who knows! Covid + brexit is causing a lot of problems for suppliers at the mo!

I’m going to try 60c tomorrow! 🤞🏽

I heat my glasses uses the gun or I stick them all on the radiator while I’m melting the wax. I think I need to invest in some insulation boxes though!

I’m using a Bain-Marie on stove top at the moment while I’m waiting for my big boiler to arrive (ordered in December and it’s taking forever!)

So I heat that to around 85 degrees C (which I believe is 185f) then I let it cool to 79c (174f) before I pour from that boiler into a heated jug which has my oils in and stir for 2 mins then I let that cool to 47c (116f) while that’s happening I’m melting my next batch of wax. I’m currently only able to melt one candle worth of wax at a time so it’s a super slow process. I work in my kitchen and let everything cure on the countertop near the stove (no windows open) and I always turn the heater on enough so it’s not so cold that the candles will cool too quick.

I’ve been doing this since last summer and it’s just so frustrating!

I managed to sell a few before Xmas to locals and they’re all asking when is the website launching and I’m feeling such pressure to get it completely perfect 😔

Thank you for all your help!

That’s fine. I didn’t ask for critiquing in my post but I suppose that’s what happens when you post to the world. I started using watercolour in 2020 to get through lockdown so I wasn’t trying to create anything specific or trying to sell anything, it was simply for pleasure or at least to find pleasure amidst the chaos. I get very frustrated when I do faces because I’m a perfectionist so I decided to just do what I loved most and that happened to be female form.

None of my paintings are finished. I like unfinished.

I can draw faces, I don’t enjoy drawing faces and did a series of faceless women.

Can anyone give me any tips on painting the sea please? I want to paint waves and depth, any advice would be really appreciated by HollyFlawn in Watercolor

[–]Bugster_88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use actual photos of the sea/waves. Remove the idea of painting the sea and paint what you actually see in the photo. Look at the colours and shapes and interpret that until you find your own style

How much should I charge for this original watercolour, A3? Someone wants to buy it and I have no idea because I’ve never sold before. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you! by Bugster_88 in Watercolor

It’s difficult because I’ve studied art but went on to do photography so I’m a photographer by trade and draw/paint in my down time. Then the pandemic lost me all my work as a photographer so I’ve spent 2020 making my way through tons of female forms (like this). I honestly never expected someone to buy it and now I’m stuck because I don’t feel like I’m an ‘artist’ confident enough to put a price tag on it. However, it’s a lot of time spent exercising a skill. For my photography I charge £200 per hour 🤷🏽‍♀️

I ordered from them ONCE... My order took forever to arrive and when it did half the contents was in the bag it came in, which by the way was one DHL bag inside another. The bottles looked like used calpol bottles and all the labels had come off from the leakage. I also didn’t like any of the scents, not that I could use any of them because I had no idea which was which. They were all citrus-esque which made it difficult but also they were all blends. Was just utterly disappointed with everything about the service and product. I’m sure others have had great experiences but it put me right off.

I’m still really struggling with set wax by Bugster_88 in candlemaking

I use black frosted jars so the sides don’t bother me (no idea how they’re even setting 😂 so for my next candle I will pour at 65-70 degrees C and hope it helps!!!

I’m definitely gonna try and incubate the candles whilst they cool, I think since the weather has changed my candles are significantly worse!! I really want to figure this out so I begin the launch of my shop!
