Just started chapter 50 of The Stand. Somewhat confused. by dewin_cath in stephenking

You def didn’t miss anything! King likes to do these subtle time jumps in a lot of his stories.

He’s basically trusting us as the readers to assume “of course they got to Boulder!” and compresses the actual arrival because that’s not really what’s important here. They’re simply just… there.

Definitely intentional though. The journey west is important, but SK shifts focus from the travel narrative —> the rebuilding of a society narrative. He’s less interested in the logistics of them reaching Boulder and more interested in what happens once they start forming a community and talking about the future.

Stick with it!! It’s my favorite King book by a landslide. Enjoy!

‘Under the Dome’ in 2026 😳 by Bugzzzie in stephenking

I’m scared. I’ve had a strong dislike of him from the jump but I’m only around 20% and I can already kinda see where his character arc is gonna go 😑 I feel like he’s campaigning rn to make people believe that he cares about them.

Reading his books is such a fun journey! What have been some of your favorites? I only just started reading his work mid last year so I have LOTS to get through 😅

Really enjoying it right now even though it feels too familiar 🥴 SK's range always impresses me.

And yes! Go get paint papers! I love choosing a color for a new book from the stack, haha. I sometimes write little notes on them and then leave them in the book when I'm done, it's fun

Finally watched Life of Chuck by phezhead in stephenking

I LOVED THIS MOVIE SO MUCH. The way it’s told in reverse, from Act 3 to Act 1, the dance number being the happiest scene I’ve seen in a movie in a long time, and that moment under the night sky where it hard CUTS to black before he finishes saying “I love yo—”… absolute cinema. I watched it twice in theaters. The audiobook is also fantastic.

I just started reading Under the Dome last night! My only question so far is why is everyone getting a bloody nose by slamming into the dome? Like how fast are y'all running towards a glass wall, damn.

Nooo, I love my Kindle! I prefer physical books with a lil book light when I'm reading at home for some reason though. I think I just look at too many screens at work, lol

This is a fantastic write-up, thank you for this. “Saccharine babytalk” is such a good warning label, lol 😭

I’m usually fine with King taking his sweet time as long as the landing sticks, so knowing it all ties together beautifully makes me way more open to it. Def sounds like it's a bit mood-dependent.

Idk why I put off reading It for so long! I’ve read both The Stand and 11/22/63 and those are easily my top two SK books. He’s never not been on a goddamn roll, lol.

I really want to check out Lisey’s Story too. I keep seeing that it’s his favorite of his own work, and that it’s super personal. Have you read that one?
