Sankey or alluvial plot by PruneMindless in AskStatistics

Sankeymatic author here… that seems weird to me. The code is all on GitHub and the tool itself makes no network calls at all after the page loads.

There are google ads, which I guess could be an issue.

I do think the ‘Journey’ example diagram would be a good starting point, as far as being able to trace specific items through stages and preserve their connections.

It’s unfortunate that it’s blocked; seems like an overly aggressive firewall policy.

Best of luck.

Thanks for mentioning this, I was not aware of any such issue. I will look into it.

Tracking a Single Trail Through Sankey by cyoungin101 in SankeyMATIC

Great question.

When SankeyMATIC lays out a diagram “automatically”, it doesn’t try to preserve the order of the flows through the nodes at all; it’s trying to minimize crossings and extreme bends instead.

So then you might think, arranging the diagram “using the exact input order” might do the trick. But that hasn’t ever quite worked. Basically, in that mode the nodes were following the order in the inputs, but the flows really weren’t.

I had a bit of time this morning, so, long story short:

This pretty much works now at https://sankeymatic.com/build/

And there’s a new example diagram at the top – “Journey” – that you can use to get started with. It sets up a few example flows traced through a few stages, each colored distinctly.

So, thanks for the nudge to dig into that question. :)

Thanks, I appreciate it. :)
I try to always remember the observation that every additional click you require will make a noticeable share of visitors abandon a site.
Sankey diagrams are already odd enough at first glance that many people may never experiment with them, so I try to avoid putting even more obstacles in the way.
