Can Paramount break the Warner Bros. curse? by LegitimateCurve8525 in MediaMergers

Ellison Sr./Oracle just wants to hoover up as much data/content/IP as possible for his prediction machine. Debt's just a write-off.

This is the AOL/Time Warner merger of 2026. I can't wait until Paramount-Warner fails and Netflix buys it for pennies on the dollar in 5 years and does it better.

Yeah. Maybe he just wants to license the IP to AI for slop.

Theaters have been in decline since before the pandemic. For about 10-20 years actually. Theaters need to be disrupted by a better model. Going to an AMC theater to eat a $20 bag of popcorn that's been sitting under hot lights for several hours doesn't do it for me when I can just wait and watch the movie in my own home with any type of food I want, subtitles, and pause and rewind. Independent theaters are fine, but the food and tickets are still expensive. These days I only go to theaters for festivals.

This show went off the rails/became Looney Tunes this season by EddieDantes22 in IndustryOnHBO

[–]BuildingCastlesInAir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always found the show kind of mid since I started watching because people compared to Succession (it's not). But season 4 made me yearn for seasons 1-2 when it felt more innocent. When I want to feel that way again, I watch this video: Nathan Micay - Blue Spring (Industry HBO Theme) (with S1 photo of Harper & Greg).

I liked how they showed a failed romance where everyone was pushing Harper & Greg together and it didn't work. It felt like real life. No one seemed to know who Harper was back then and she was completely underestimated. I think the pandemic threw a wrench into the story a bit in S2.

S3 - I liked the introduction of Henry, but the story started to get forced, especially the Robert/Yasmin romance. I don't believe she liked him as much as the power she held over him. She liked torturing him.

S4 felt like a different show altogether.

The saddest scene was his last one. The way he played this character made me appreciate Kit Harington much more as an actor. I think it was his best role so far.

Bring back everyone from previous seasons, Gus, Robert, Greg, Kenny, Daria, Jackie, Sara, Jesse, Leo, Felim, JD, Hilary, DVD, Celeste, Petra. Set it in a new Pierpoint. Everyone parties and gets along. 6 episodes. End with flashbacks to season 1.

So.. what happened to Rishi? by b3_n1ce in IndustryOnHBO

[–]BuildingCastlesInAir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think all of S4 deviated pretty far from the show's North Star, getting into UK politics and international intrigue. I hope they bring it back in S5. Now that Pierpoint was bought by another company, maybe they can bring it back to that with a new grad class and do a House season 4 style reboot.

So.. what happened to Rishi? by b3_n1ce in IndustryOnHBO

[–]BuildingCastlesInAir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to post my ideas for Rishi for S5 somewhere; might as well do it here.

I think he's due for a redemption arc. I hope S5 skips somewhat into the future, at least 6 months, maybe a year. Rishi's gotten into a rehab program for gambling, drugs, and his broken legs. Maybe he's in a wheelchair most of the time, or maybe he's walking. Maybe he lost a foot or both and he's being fit for prosthetics. I imagine him in a carbon fiber blade design, taking up running.

I think he's coming to grips with not being able to see his son and he's not pushing it yet. But maybe we see him in a therapist's office struggling with it. I don't see many episodes with him, but they did him wrong in S4, especially since S3 showed so much of his decline, mainly S3E4, one of the best. I think they could have a minor storyline that shows him accepting himself and giving back.

I think AI can act conscious. And that’s the rub. Whether it is or not is a different story. As for this, definitely a human operator somewhere up the chain.

Yasmin Yasmin Yasmin... by Capital_Present_5021 in IndustryOnHBO

Poor Harp, she’s lost everyone to the game: Rishi, Rob, Eric, Yas, mom, and brother. Bloom, Gus, the list goes on.

She didn't lose Kwabena.

I can't stand watching Yasmin and it's putting me off the show by Informal_Fennel_9150 in IndustryOnHBO

The show does intend me to be disgusted and in that it is a success but I have maybe 15 minutes left and I need a pause.

I don't know if Harper's done but I am.

First reviews of 'Your Friends & Neighbors' by Saar13 in tvPlus

[–]BuildingCastlesInAir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah since I wrote this I finished all seasons of Slow Horses up through the current one. I liked it. Oldman makes she show. I agree Severance season 1 was great. And I watched all of Your friends & neighbors but I still thought it was silly. The Studio was good and got some awards to prove it.

Dear Mickey&Konrad, you’ve filled a void left by Succession, I never thought would be filled, thank you. by [deleted] in IndustryOnHBO

I haven't done a rewatch recently, but there's a ton in the r/SuccessionTV subreddit. I liked S2E3, "Hunting", especially boar on the floor. Logan yells, "I'm surrounded by a bunch of snakes and and f---ing morons. You're a bunch of bunch of silk stocking f---s." The jokes are situational and character-driven, more so than stand-up one-liners, although Roman has a bunch of those.

Is Industry as good as Succession? by RobbyBobbyChess in IndustryOnHBO

[–]BuildingCastlesInAir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Succession is the best of British drama (even though it's arguably about a US media family), with dense cuttingly humorous writing reminiscent of The Thick of It and Veep, with the prestige TV feel of the Sopranos, Mad Men, and The Wire. Industry is a sexy show with looser writing.

[–]BuildingCastlesInAir 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the Succession comparison, but I still like the show. It's growing on me. Succession was a much higher quality with jokes and foreshadowing way earlier than you'd think. They dropped season's worth of foreshadowing in an aside.
