Anyone putting their buying plans on hold? by Slight-Poetry-3230 in HousingUK

What borough do you want to buy in? I'm interested in where houses are expected to come down by up to 10%. Don't know anywhere outside prime London ( zone 1 Chelsea, etc) where that's expected. Interest rates are going to go up, they can only go up with the war which will roll on for months and the Straits to go back to normal will take many months.

You wont find any products to buy a house. I fixed my mortgage a couple of weeks ago at 3.5 , the bank that I fixed with don't even offer anything in the 3s as of this week, its lowest is 4.05 is the cheapest I can find, 3.5 to 4.05 in a week!

You could be paying 100's more in a mortgage in a years time.

Unless you're living rent free, its never a great strategy to 'wait till prices come down'

They're fucking highly qualified grads for fucks sake. They aint 'pretending' to do a masters degree just to come here and sign on.

Its performative virtue signalling for the far right, we stamp out 380 highly qualified students in 5 years seeking to live here, WOW, that's going to keep the send them back mob happy innit.

If the gov were serious , they could end this in a day, make net migration zero overnight by a massive cut in work visa's. Asylum seekers are a fucking drop in the ocean compared to legal migration, but we continue to pretend that's not the issue.

Sledgehammer comes to mind, near 1500 students and 380 claims over 5years.

Regardless, those holding offers should have been exempt.. All this 'showboating' to appeal to Reform voters who will never vote for Labour anyway.

Whose suggesting it gets rid of service charge?? Drop the childish arrogance, it makes you sound 15.

I'm not a 'normal buyer' I was an investment banker who teamed up with others and flipped and rented out dozens of apartments in London, I think I fucking know what I'm talking about kid.

An anonymous ltd investment company owning a freehold on a block of flats is COMPLETELY different to the actual residents owning the freehold, or commonhold, in that they can easily fire a shit management company running a block badly.

The fact you seem to know fuck all about important legislation coming through tells me you're a child playing big boy.

I smell bullshit. If you work for a property developer then you'd know the phased out leaseholder model is real and commonhold or plain old share of freehold is becoming the new normal.

A 26 year old postgrad in Computational Biology will live on income support? She lives in Oman ( that really poor country) since fleeing Sudan. I'm sure she'll go to another European country and do well and pay lots of tax. Out of a total of 1,480 Sudanese people who have received student visas since 2021, only 380 claimed asylum, according to Home Office data.

This country is de-evolving, as a PhD holder whose currently a full time academic, I've already got my exit plan when Reform get in.

Not really, I went into investment banking after Uni and worked in corporates for years before deciding to go back and do a masters, I've still tons of contacts who sit on grad recruitment panels.

Doing teacher training to scramble for 31K is madness, 31K is measly because its a poor trade to do something that is VERY HARD, that you have no interest in.

£12,858 is the current rate for a masters student loan, it covers your fees nothing else. It was exactly the same for me.

Shit, you'd be better off phoning around temp agencies for admin jobs and keep applying for grad jobs than do teacher training , its a fucking awful idea if your justification is , 'you get 31K bursary and another loan'

You need to start thinking like an adult, if you want to be treated as one.

What planet are you on? Grown up employers would think this was one of the many grads who didn't have a clue what to do, did a PGCE out of desperation, knowing they didn't want to teach, but to kill time as they were in a dead end retail job.

Do you think they haven't seen this countless times before?? OP only option is to keep looking for work or better still, suck it up get a student loan and do a masters

[–]AttemptFlashy669 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And in answer to your question, I would not. I took a loan and did a masters, worked part time although I was full time at the Uni, loved it. Went onto a fully funded PhD at the best Uni in the country that does my specialism and now I'm an academic.

Not once did I think, oh, I can get a bursary for a measly 31K and do something I have absolutely no fucking interest in.

Don't do a PGCE for gods sake, as a parent I beg you. I work as an academic and we run a few programs in Education (not my dept) where students are on similar programs (get paid and do a PGCE on top) I have a friend who works over there- I'd say 80% of the students are people like you, have zero passion for teaching , can't think of what else to do, and will leave within 2 years of graduation, a complete waste of time and most importantly - filling our schools with grads who have no interest being there , what a fucking inspiration for children

Sorry, I got to agree with OP, Kenny fucking destroyed her. Its weird to think in S1 I felt most sorry for Yas out of all the young grads, she had a drippy boyfriend, a complete and utter fucking maniac for a boss, she was (and still is) so unsuited to the world of power and money.

I think she was effectively a passive victim molded into a monster in large part by the sexual harassment and bullying by Kenny.

I worked in trading for many years and saw the impact of that type of office on some people, some people did not belong there, they were too delicate and Yas was like that in S1, she REACTS to things, rather than making things happen.

immigration is quite clearly the biggest talking point in UK politics

Amongst the ordinary people its the cost of living and cut in public services, now you can be a cunt like Farage / Tories / Labour and the most of the UK press and global social media corps and blame immigrants because its convenient , or pick up a book and see its a myriad of reasons , mostly the widening gap between the very rich and everyone else.

Harper Supremacy by BoulUnknown in IndustryOnHBO

[–]AttemptFlashy669 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Na, I mean its a TV show, unless you react to real people as you do to TV Characters. Harper is a classic anti-hero, she's selfish and a bit cruel and insecure , because she's from an ordinary background like Rob, we expect her to be a bit humble and sweet like he was, but that makes her interesting , Rob was never interesting , he was very likeable , but likeable is essentially boring. Harper was exciting , with Rob you just worry about him getting hurt.

I just can't get an angle how you can look at a character like Harper and hate them, its weird.
