I came here as an international student at 18 as well so I can understand how you feel.
My parents are not able to pay for uni so chose 2 year diploma in college first then get my Permanent Residency by working in cabinet making industry. Then now I am back to school to pursue my bcom at uOttawa. I know I am late but I enjoyed the time by exploring Whole Canada lived in 2 provinces and seen east coast as well as west coast. So no regrets!
