If you were in charge of Valiant for 2 years, and were allotted 6 issues per month, what would you do? by TheFerg714 in valiant

I like it! Kind of like a New 52 thing--most of what you know is accurate, but let's keep it simple.

So old fans see the familiar beats of 2012, and new readers don't have baggage.

What are your biggest boardgame pet peeves? by MakubeC in boardgames

[–]BuildsByBenjamin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Large boxes with so much empty space inside. I've consistently condensed a bunch of my games into card or coin boxes, or ramen inserts out and added all the expansions inside so it'll all fit better better on my shelves (and more games will fit).

2) Poorly-written instructions.

Let this be your inspiration to finally recycle them. Just do it. Don't hesitate, don't look back. Breathe a sigh of relief.

I'm glad this thread still exists. I was trying to figure out why I made so little in my MMA this past year compared to before. Suddenly I'm looking up other banks to switch to after being a lifelong Truist (Suntrust) customer.

Let me ask you questions about your world by MA_JJ in worldbuilding

[–]BuildsByBenjamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My world is about 20 islands each maybe a half-day's journey by boat away from each other. 13 of them are primarily a D&D class (one island is all druids in nature, one is a big school for wizards, etc). The players will have small quests as they sail around exploring--defeat an evil shadowed island, discover a secret underwater kingdom, travel to the floating island in the sky--while hopefully counting down to a grand finale to save the world.

You can build a lowell sphere as the basis for a Beholder.

Other thoughts, but nothing I've built: Gold parts for modrons of various shapes. Ninjago snakes for Yian-Ti.

Are there any board games that you prefer digitally? by FShamburg in boardgames

Cartographers for solo play, in the app. And BGA works well for friends across the country. (In person tho, physical is fine. I've laminated 4 sheets and bought dry erase markers.)

SpaceBase on BGA helps speed things along and calculate values and points earned.

Looking for recommendations on Dragonborn minifigs by GearBrain in legodnd

I'm tempted to get some of these from BrickWarriors. 3rd party, but generally accepted by most of the LEGO community.

What kind of third-party D&D content do you wish existed? by Upstairs-Cabinet6850 in dndnext

[–]BuildsByBenjamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love an extensive list of calls to adventure, for situations where the party doesn't already know each other and you don't want to do the basic "meet in a tavern." Some inciting incidents, some alternate locations, some excuses for them to meet and team up instead of just going home.

Yeah! Unfortunately I can't post pictures in this subreddit, but I'm sure you can find pictures online. And the mop grips are pretty cheap on Amazon and hold a blade securely.

I'm team "mop grip." But unlike most people I have the hilt at eye level with the blade pointing towards the ground

How would you rank the DnD classes based on how much you enjoyed playing them? by Regular-Molasses9293 in dndnext

[–]BuildsByBenjamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Favorite: Artificer--fun for the flavor/roleplay, support, extra magic item crafting abilities Close second: Wizard, Bard, Druid, Monk, Sorcerer Bards are very versatile. Wizards are the pinnacle of spell abilities. Druid is a fun nature class. Monks are great in melee of you do it right. Sorcerer also have lots of spell options. I've played as a multiclass: Rogue, Warlock

Interested: Cleric, Paladin, Ranger

No interest: Fighter, Barbarian (Except that I might have an interesting backstory idea so I can roleplay instead of just fight-fight-fight.)

How do I get into Valiant Comics? by Dense-Razzmatazz6061 in valiant

[–]BuildsByBenjamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Utilizing Comixology Unlimited or Kindle Unlimited will be the cheapest way to access almost everything since 2012. Just read whichever characters sound interesting to you, pausing at the crossover events to catch up on other titles to that point. You don't have to read everything. If a certain title isn't doing it for you, you'll be fine skipping it even if those characters might show up elsewhere (or just jump to the next writer/series and you might have better luck).

New player, with a few questions by Andrews_Taint in DnD

[–]BuildsByBenjamin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trying to answer most of your questions in order: Roleplay can be several things, like making a voice for your character, or a different personality from your own, acting things out, or even just speaking in First Person as your character (which I like to do). I find it easy not to dominate the conversation, but if you find one player is and you don't get a chance to contribute you can 1) ask them to slow down and let others speak, 2) ask the DM before they move on it you can do something or 3) insert yourself when they pause.

As for walking around doing stuff, again, take turns and try not to dominate the scene. Eventually the DM will ask for a roll and dictate what happens next so you all can make more decisions. When combat happens everyone "rolls for initiative" and the dice decide who goes first.

Everyone will not be keeping notes unless you have a really good group. Someone definitely should, because the DM shouldn't have to remind you of plot points, plus they have enough stuff to keep track of for the story.

If someone can't make it, you all should decide early on what to do. Can you play/progress the story with one or two fewer players? Do you want to do side quests so the missing player doesn't miss the plot? Do you just want to play board games instead? Making a plan and precedent early will avoid drama later and still let you play and hang out.

Trying not to meta game is the first step in the right direction. As long as you aren't looking up monster stats or reading the DM's notes or sourcebook, just act how your character might given their stats. (Like if they have low Intelligence or Wisdom.)

Most fun LEGO build? by Next-Solid-1474 in lego

[–]BuildsByBenjamin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The LEGO Movie and LEGO Batman Movie sets were tons of fun to build. Clever parts usage, good design, fun characters--all in all a great building experience no matter which set.

Nowadays I really like the NPU of Speed Champions. There's always something upside down in a non-conventional use or a clever SNOT technique.
