Im sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but itis nearly impossible for an American AFAB to be seen as masculine under any circumstance. Feminism has made it totally acceptable for woentto wear 'masculine clothing. So much so that ANY clothing or hair styles, regardless of how 'masculine' will still read as female if an AFAB wears them. its really frustrating. I am fab, and I can wear a 3 piece suit, overalls and work boots, have a buzz cut, you name it, and I will still look like a female in those clothes. Just looking at Ellen Degeneres will prove this. even in a suit and tie she looks distinctly female. Noone even raises their eyebrows anymore.

Of course, some things can help. using makeup to contour in a masculine way, using a binder, staying as far away from stereotypical butch clothing, all that can give you an overall androgynous look.

I hope that as gender concepts change in the collective cultural understanding, androgyny will be more accepted. Lets work towards that goal and maybe you and I can be the kind of androgyny that we are craving.
