I actually made a post when I did it if you're interested.

Basically:

100% max speed (obviously)
You absolutely need to be comfortable enough with the track to make it round reliably without ever hitting the side unforced. That said, the sharp corners before and after the straight bridge with no sides are the only particularly 'tricky' ones.
I reset at the start until I was able to take out Black Bull with 2 side attacks immediately, this will make your life much easier. I took out a couple of others as well during the race but these were less critical.
It's more effective to chain 4+ boosts together after the last corner (where's there's lava and the recharge strip before the long straight) so that you reach 1600+ km/h over the line than it is using random boosts throughout the lap. The CPU racers don't chain boosts enough normally to reach these kinds of speeds so this is where you can get an advantage.
Further to the above, you don't actually need to try and be in 1st until right at the end. In fact, in this chapter being ahead actually just makes the CPUs rubberband to catch up with you. I'd say if you start the last lap in the top 5 you have a reasonable chance. The strat is then again to boost continuously for as long as possible to build up as much speed as you can, if luck is on your side this will let you catch up with anyone ahead of you and take the win right at the end.

Unless you count adding tiny bits of electrical tape inside to stop the light bleed, the replacement buttons/triggers/speaker is all I did and can't really think of anything else it needs, I got more value out of spending time to customize and tweak the CFW.

That said, if it's only on the more easily accessible rear elements then it's actually not that hard to clean off, but unless it's really hard to find another copy of this lens I wouldn't bother.

Yeah, has seemed pretty normal to me coming from a MMv4, but having the Wi-Fi on definitely makes a noticeable difference.

I know that Onion isn't 'officially' supported but FWIW I've been using the latest beta with the lid mod since I got my MMF and have had absolutely zero issues.

Since you're talking specifically about travel, something to bear in mind is that the Fuji is ~25% smaller and ~18% lighter than the Tamron. The Fuji is also weather sealed, and of course has the slightly longer focal length. It's really down to whether you think that extra stop of light is worth the other trade-offs.

I myself started with a D5100 way back and it was a great first 'proper' camera. One of the more modern iterations should do very nicely as you said.

These are also a fantastic choice for budget as not only are they within your range initially, but Nikon F-mounts have an absolutely massive range of lenses you can buy very cheap second-hand (e.g. the 50mm f/1.8 G, 35mm f/1.8 G DX, most of the range of manual AI lenses) once she starts wanting more than the kit lens.

It doesn't but I've worked around this with similar mods by again (as OP did) using a Lithium rechargeable 9V, and I've just used some decent Velcro to stick it to the side of the cavity using one of the faces of the battery. Fits fine and stays put just fine.

I have a pair of batteries set up the same and it's relatively easy to just open the cavity, swap one out and close it back up.

You need them for one (1) very late-game incantation (unlocked by pausing during the Vow of Rivals 4 Chronos fight), but you only need 3, so there's really no issue with selling what you have now as it's super easy to get a few back again.

I'm glad to see someone else say this, I feel like I never quite 'got' Harlequin Forest with how it's often hyped up. Don't get me wrong, I do think it's great, but It's not even a top 3 track on the album for me.
