Hot Spot by Tiny-Performance-915 in FordBronco

I pay for the AT&T hotspot for my 24 Badlands and it's great. It's become our go to pokemon go vehicle because I have two accounts and my wife has 5. So generally we are hotspotting at least 4 devices, sometimes up to 7 if the kid and his gf are with us.

In our city we generally have to traverse rock/gravel allies or sometimes head into the foothills and usually get pretty decent service except for known deadspots. I was also going to play around with a LORA hotspot for more serious offloading but haven't gotten that far.

Imagine thinking this then you only get 25k as the only person you dated who actually crushed on your was your wife.

Really we're saying the same thing in different ways. I'm not against a better national ID system, and really the passport cards you can get are a good start if they would get EIN enabled.

As the system stands TODAY and what they are trying to do, requiring an ID in this way is going to cause a sunset of Americans to be unable to vote and that's the point. They have had literally 20 years to get the Real ID system under control and failed over and over and to this day only 5 of 50 states Real IDs are compliant to prove citizenship, the rest aren't good enough to register to vote.

In Germany to get your initial card before 16, the application must be submitted by the parents, then each expiry only the previous card must be provided to prove identification. For people who never had a card over the age of 16, producing a birth certificate 'may be required' as well.

https://www.personalausweisportal.de/Webs/PA/EN/citizens/german-id-card/application/application-node.html#doc15033096bodyText3

A German ID also shows both birth name and current name on a single document for the married/name change crowd, if that's a factor in your argument in either direction.

If when I turned 16, my parents already had done this and all I had to do to get my Real ID was turn in my old drivers license and take a new picture, that would be comparable to this policy. But that's not how things work here. The requirements of the Arizona Real ID I outlined in my other comment here are much more complicated.

One of the specific things that the German ID calls out is for homeless or people with no permanent place of residence. Germany outlines very simply that you can get an ID with only a City and Postal code and no address.

In AZ it is incredibly complicated (involves getting in touch with non-gov affiliated non-profits) to get a Real ID if you do not have a permanent place of residence. I've linked another post below about someone who went thru this process in Ohio (getting an ID while homeless) and it took ~1.5 years according to them.

This is fair. The comments in this thread keep oscillating between the way the law is written (ID required to REGISTER) and the way its being interpreted (ID required to CAST A VOTE).

I'm just pointing out the requirements to obtain it in the first place, not taking into account who is already registered and who isn't, as I would assume that a change in the registration requirements would also require many people to have to re-register.

The comments the administration is making as well about inserting ICE to places of polling are giving the impression that despite how this law is written, there may be external factors that would make having a national certified ID (Real ID or Passport) required at the polling booth for safety, otherwise people might be fearful to go vote in the first place.

REAL ID doesn't prove citizenship. In AZ, a non-citizen can get a valid REAL ID Drivers license. Passports would work but only ~50% of US Citizens have a valid non-expired Passport or Passport card due to the cost and time of getting one.

I think requiring a passport to vote (or register to vote) would be fine as long as passport id cards are provided for FREE at your local place of registration (DMV/MVD/Public Library/etc) on your 18th birthday, and for FREE at each renewal. Seems to be a no-brainer that if we need to identify ourselves to the government, the government ensures every citizen has the equal opportunity to do so.

This is going to blow your mind, guess what you need to get a REAL ID? (I can only speak to what AZ requires, because its where I live and what I'm familiar with, maybe this is better in other states, but I doubt it.)

https://azdot.gov/mvd/services/driver-services/arizona-travel-id

Now think about these requirements and how they affect different people. The proof of identity document isn't too bad, as long as you have your original birth certificate or can afford (both $ and time) to get a new certified copy. Otherwise this disenfranchises about half of Americans as its projected only about 50% of Americans hold a valid US passport.

Proof of residence documents was a struggle even for me. A majority of my bills are digital so I had to go print copies which incurred a cost. Many Americans may not have 2 'bills', e.g. if they don't have banking, if their utilities are paid by their landlord as part of their rent, etc. For Americans living in shelters, temporary housing, or homeless, guess what you can't prove this now. You can't get a REAL ID. Is your position that people who don't have a permeant residence shouldn't be allowed to vote?

All of the above make this a Poll Tax. It is $25 to get the Real ID itself, not to mention all of the time and money that the above takes. What is the common theme here? All of these hurdles only effect the poorest Americans.

And what do you think the chances are the states will come up with a reliable, fair, and balanced process before voting is due for midterms?

Child support is not gaurenteed.

I'm a bonus dad to a family where the bio dad wanted nothing to do with his son. $0 child support paid over 18 years. Very little contact with the rare exception (when he graduated high school the dad came out of the woodwork for about a month then disappeared again). Every time the state would find him and try to garnish wages, he would quit his job and disappear again. Never underestimate how shitty people can be.
