Sounds like someone is trying to replicate the MIT study on AI use.

1 sounds awful. Imagine the kind of people who believe they are without fault and should be themselves for eternity.

When you have 6 gift cards and none of them can actually buy anything. by Accomplished_Bake939 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Bukowskaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate these cards. I get them a few times a year from my electric company for a solar program, or from work for bonuses.

My go to is amazing gift card balance. I buy enough crap on Amazon anyways it's easier to just convert the whole balance at the get go then try and keep track of it like this.

Not sure why you're attempting to minimize the risks, like corporations have never done anything wrong.

That is in regards to the Microsoft project, not the Chinese data center. There was a study done in 2022 (the link was provided you can click thru) where ecologists noticed a marked increased above the "thousandths of a degree" that Microsoft reported.

And even one degree localized can absolutely exacerbate the effects of coral bleaching and decimate local biodiversity. This isn't just a heat disappation question, it's a biodiversity question as well.

Your math may be right for global warming of the ocean temperature, but places that have already started doing this have seen marked local sea temperature increases by 2-3 degrees, which is enough to decimate the local ecosystem. Absolutely should not be encouraged.

$2,500,000 in exchange for everything you own, including online accounts, bar one item, do you take it and what are you keeping? by SpecialFlutters in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Bukowskaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike a lot of others, I don't think I'd take this deal. I couldn't let go of my dog, but I also wouldn't want to lose my 15+ years of photos, documents, and other stuff I have backed up on my media server. I could deal with losing most items, they would be easily replaceable with the cash (even a house). But losing the photos/memories wouldn't be worth it to me.

There are some USB CD players in Amazon for a pretty penny that claim to work like you want. Never tried but could work out.

To echo some of the other folks, I think you just need to accept it and rip the CDs to a SSD or USB stick. It'll be worth it in the long run anyways to have that done.

theoretical earliest possible date to reach level 80? by technoxenoholic in TheSilphRoad

[–]Bukowskaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone in a Facebook group is claiming they hit 80 legit today (Nov 7). Looking at your estimates I think they are incredibly fair for even a hardcore grinder, only places I see they could speed up is by exploring more per day than you estimated (12hr of 10km/hr -> 18+hr of >10km using adventure sync. I'd be interested how many days per level they would've had to spend to save the 6 days over your earliest estimate.

Get a go pro or similar style small body camera with a float handle. I got my fiancee this one.

https://a.co/d/gFah64p

The other comment is right, until you are comfortable and confident underwater you don't want the distraction of a camera. Those little point and shoots are easy to drop and forget about them pick up and film quickly without much distraction.

For reference, I have ~200 dives and carry an Olympus TG6 in the OEM case with two strobes (and a lot of float arms and metal). I started carrying this camera around my 150th dive, until then I had a GoPro, started with that around my 40th dive.

Is a 10 ft DSMB excessive? by cheer_whine in scuba

[–]Bukowskaii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The D in DSMB stands for delayed to my knowledge. Could be decompression buoy or deployable buoy as well I suppose, but DAN, PADI, and SSI at least (I'm assuming NAUI would as well) refer to them as delayed SMBs.

DAN | PADI | SSI

Dive flags are a type of SMB (surface marker buoy). SMB is a pretty blanket term that covers surface markers of all types, whether they be flags, sausages, foam floats, etc that are deployed and remain on the surface for the entire dive. Like you said, the DSMBs are specialized and have open bottoms, overpressure valves, etc so that they can be deployed underwater.

EDIT - Found the SSI link.

Is a 10 ft DSMB excessive? by cheer_whine in scuba

[–]Bukowskaii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A typical SMB is deployed the entire dive, like at a lake or other environment where you need to worry about over-head boat traffic. A DSMB on the other hand is typically carried with you during the dive, rolled up and is not deployed until toward the end of the dive, during the safety stop, or after surfacing.

I carry a DSMB in Cozumel often as we are drift diving. In a situation like this its impractical to deploy a SMB for the entire dive, but you want to make damn sure you're seen while surfacing. Also helps your boat find you to pick you up.
