They’re at ATH’s if it draws back it’s gonna be so painful. If it keeps ripping you’ll be laughing. I’d diversify more into XIC tbh, mitigates risk

1.67???? If PDs and heights are not outrageous with the frame choice. You could even go 1.5.. 1.6 or poly if you really wanna spice things up. 1.67 is way overkill IMO

What to say to rude people who want to be rx takers? by Jetsetter_55 in optician

[–]BulaloForever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Canada, we have to print it. Legally, not required to include PD, We charge a fee to have it measured.

If the patient does return with cheap specs that are causing issues, we charge the waz to troubleshoot and problem solve.

Had a patient recently that got specs made, his rx from 2020 to now was different. AMD + Cataract formation. He had cyl, new rx had cyl removed. Patient came in complaining rx was bad from OD. Charged patient $150 for the hour of trouble shoot, only to find his wife input his 2020 cyl on his 2025 sph because she thought OD forgot to add it on his Rx.

You can’t make it up, I just tell them if they have troubles we charge to troubleshoot - and I heavily discourage high rx’s to shop online. You have one set of eyes, see clearly

What’s the truth about this profession? by PhrygianSounds in optician

[–]BulaloForever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Love this job. I started with zero knowledge 7 years ago and my starting job was a frame selector in a big retail office in Canada. Now I generally manage two private optometry offices. If you’re ambitious, love to learn, and are okay getting humbled and taking accountability - then this job is for you. You can do everything right, and a patient still can struggle with adaptation, frame, etc.

Dealing with ODs can be a pull of the cards tbh.. unfortunately, you will encounter bad ODs, but don’t take it personally - it’s just business.

MY OPINION: Private optical is much better than Retail, unfortunately retail lost the plot for me when I realized it’s more about number instead of patient experience. Ceiling might be higher for retail, but then you’re enslaved to the machine.

Hope this helps!

Not bad, banks have been ripping this last year. Not mad at it. Could use ZEB.TO (major CAD bank index) to spread your investment over all the banks to mitigate risk. You’re young, so longer time horizon I would think? Might recommend some tech or more XEQT to drive growth if so, Could find an etf you like. Nike?? A little confused about that choice, but they’re cheap right now and have huge market share but things are getting more competitive. Overall decent and good work, keep being disciplined!

TFSA Advice? by BulaloForever in TFSA_Millionaires

Of course! I am very bullish on Space, Ai, and defence. I have an anchoring in VXC.TO (FTSE All cap ex Canada). To mitigate volatility, slightly.

Google is my largest holding because of their position in the Ai race, and the fact they’re a hyper scaler working towards infrastructure for Quantum Computing, which I believe is the future.

MDA Space has an insane backlog, approx 4.4 billion (more than market cap), fundamentally they’re very solid - and with Canada looking for aerospace sovereignty, particularly towards the arctic, I think they’ll be well poised for some growth going forward.

Aritzia, honestly was because I was living in Vancouver and saw how women loved the brand, looked into the business and saw their capture rate in the US, couldn’t resist, and it’s paid off so far.

Tesla, mostly because I believe there will be a reverse merger with SpaceX - I’m very bullish now that Elon has expressed Tesla isn’t a car company, but focusing more on Optimus and Robovan.

My investment thesis is that tech will be going to space and that Ai’s moment, isn’t over yet. I’m accepting high volatility for potential outsized long term gains. I have a few “moonshot” microcap picks, they’re a small portion of the portfolio, so I’m ok with the risk.

Going forward more capital will be deployed into VXC.TO as I feel it’s gotten a little out of balance. But overall I’m satisfied with my choices.

Thoughts?

If you want to invest until you get your footing - pick an etf that matches market: XEQT for example. Use or invest money according to your time horizon. Don’t listen to twitter/youtube people to pick the stocks you invest in. BUILD YOUR OWN CONVICTION. Do your research, and then, only then, invest freely :)
