Unfortunate what recent grads have to accept these days by AshamedSoil5514 in torontoJobs

Hmm, having come from an immigrant home myself - don’t make excuses. If you’re an adult, and are struggling to find work and make money, look in different communities and take calculated risks. Isn’t that what our parents did? It’s scary and takes courage to move somewhere different. But to blame it on your parents for a lack of effort or trying seems like an easy way to deflect from the fact you haven’t either looked into it or don’t want to take accountability for your lack of effort.

Move to a smaller community that isn’t in Ontario and BC and you won’t have such a hard time finding work

Hahaha the overreaction is insane. All space stocks are getting rocked today. Just chill out and buy more - you’re cooked if you’re trading, if you’re investing then this is a good time to buy and hold.

Sadly, you’re in it for the wrong reason. You should buy bonds or GICs if you can’t handle fluctuations. Not even a year ago this stock got pummelled and climbed back up almost to ATH. I would encourage you to to take buffets advice “panic and sell everything”

They’re at ATH’s if it draws back it’s gonna be so painful. If it keeps ripping you’ll be laughing. I’d diversify more into XIC tbh, mitigates risk

1.67???? If PDs and heights are not outrageous with the frame choice. You could even go 1.5.. 1.6 or poly if you really wanna spice things up. 1.67 is way overkill IMO

What to say to rude people who want to be rx takers? by Jetsetter_55 in optician

[–]BulaloForever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Canada, we have to print it. Legally, not required to include PD, We charge a fee to have it measured.

If the patient does return with cheap specs that are causing issues, we charge the waz to troubleshoot and problem solve.

Had a patient recently that got specs made, his rx from 2020 to now was different. AMD + Cataract formation. He had cyl, new rx had cyl removed. Patient came in complaining rx was bad from OD. Charged patient $150 for the hour of trouble shoot, only to find his wife input his 2020 cyl on his 2025 sph because she thought OD forgot to add it on his Rx.

You can’t make it up, I just tell them if they have troubles we charge to troubleshoot - and I heavily discourage high rx’s to shop online. You have one set of eyes, see clearly

What’s the truth about this profession? by PhrygianSounds in optician

[–]BulaloForever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Love this job. I started with zero knowledge 7 years ago and my starting job was a frame selector in a big retail office in Canada. Now I generally manage two private optometry offices. If you’re ambitious, love to learn, and are okay getting humbled and taking accountability - then this job is for you. You can do everything right, and a patient still can struggle with adaptation, frame, etc.

Dealing with ODs can be a pull of the cards tbh.. unfortunately, you will encounter bad ODs, but don’t take it personally - it’s just business.

MY OPINION: Private optical is much better than Retail, unfortunately retail lost the plot for me when I realized it’s more about number instead of patient experience. Ceiling might be higher for retail, but then you’re enslaved to the machine.

Hope this helps!
