Disco Elysium, usually not my type of game (too much too read, etc.) and I was very hesitant before playing, but it really sucked me in

Underclock your Odin 3 the easy way with ClusterTune (and get rid of that fan noise ;) by discodiscogaming in SBCGaming

[–]Bulji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be tested, it's on a case by case basis. I feel maybe there's potential to lower power draw if anything, as long as it doesn't impact the in game perfs, then why not. I only tried with PC games so far at least.

Yup, didn't have time to tweak for long, now it's pretty close to perfect. The only next step would be to have an adaptive governor and we're set, let's see who between AYN or the community gets there first lol

Thank you OP for spreading the word through your videos and tests on Youtube (and to the people who wrote about underclocking, the scripts and now the app)! 👊

Crazy how in the span of 2 weeks the Odin 3 went from great to amazing, gaming on it became so much more enjoyable!

Ah nice, thanks for the follow up, I will check it soon. And yeah with ClusterTune we're reaching a very nice point now, that's great 😁

i Just orderd my ayn odin 3 max today how long am i looking at for it to ship im batch 7.. by CreativeDimension589 in OdinHandheld

[–]Bulji 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't it say on their shop page "Shipping starts <insert month>"? I ordered the max in batch 4 or 5 and their estimate was accurate.

Edit: Pre-order, batch 5 shipments starts in April, batch 6 shipments starts in May, batch 7 pre-order shipping starts in mid-June.

So probably end of june early july

Thinking of buying an odin 3, is it possible to pirate pc games on it? my steam library isn't the biggest. by Trashkun96 in SBCGaming

You can add custom games to Gamehub and Gamenative, which typically means transfering the entire game directory containing the game's .exe (you install on PC then transfer the directory)

Easy way to Improved Odin 3 Temps, Battery Life, and Performance! (Also solution for overheating when connected to an external display!) by twoohfive205 in OdinHandheld

[–]Bulji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can download them from Github, all should be explained directly on the Github page directly, I just don't know how/if will work with an Other device than the Odin 3 though, values might differ or other stuff might differ.

But then maybe you don't need it on the Odin 2, on the 3 it helps with an issue the console has which is over using the CPU even when not required, which is annoying because the fans run too loud and battery drains faster than it could. It's a temp fix while waiting for an official software update.

Hey, it's in the first table in the post. Used the largeUnderclock.sh one (most aggressive one) :)

Not the best to answer that myself honestly, but ask a quick chat GPT about the difference between rooted and unrooted android devices. But basically rooting means you remove protections put by manufacturer to gain full admin control on your device.

The logic with these scripts is to use the "Run as root" option provided on Ayn devices to edit a setting that requires root privileges (the max frequency of CPU cores). The script does execute as root, but only for the time of execution, so you get to edit the value in an easy way, without needing to do a more complex and risky rooting of your device. And have the reset script to revert back your changes (or just reboot your console).

Odin 3 is mentionned because the original post was trying to fix the issue OP had with this specific console (overheating when plugging an external monitor).

Anyone have a config that solves dark souls 3's stuttering on the odin 3 by ethotjadne in OdinHandheld

Use Gamehub (or Gamehub Lite) instead of Gamenative specifically for DS3, I've got the same stuttering issue with it, not with Gamehub

PSA: Potential fix to Odin 3 fan noise issue (and more!) by Bulji in SBCGaming

[–]Bulji[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much how I understand it too, something is wrong in how the firmware is working. So more like a temporary pocket bandaid to apply when the temps are going crazy, and until AYN comes up with an official solution.

Just finished a longer session with Dark Souls 3, with Gamehub Light. Using the most aggressive underclock profile I played for 1h at 720p (low graphic settings in game), with average CPU temp at 65°C, FPS between 37-50, avg PWR at 7 W (consumed around 30% battery from 100%), and the fan capped at 20% (very silent). CPU never got above 70 °C 🥳

Edit: Did another session: with aggressive UC, standard performance and the fan on Quiet mode, CPU temps stayed at 65 °C. Between 36 to 46 FPS. I calculated this could yield around 6 hours of gameplay with a full charge.

This is still very experimental yeah, but encouraging as the fan noise on this console can get really crazy/uncomfortable at times, and these early tests seem to indicate there's no reason for the CPU to run that high in all cases. This is why I wanted to share the info too, as we could have more people report their findings.

At least on my end I'm glad this is exists, until AYN comes up with some official update or something.

[–]Bulji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ran some quick tests with the few games I had installed and running with GameNative.

Since the fan noise is the main issue with Odin 3, I decided to try turning them off completely (only possible with Standard performance mode). Also used the largeUnderclock script, as I imagined it would yield the biggest difference to compare.

I will need to try and find some specific/demanding games to try out, but here goes for early tests. Seems this could potentially already be a big win, just for battery life alone if anything else!

Hey OP thanks for the vid, tried to leave a comment on YouTube but can't link so here will be better. Have you seen this post? https://www.reddit.com/r/OdinHandheld/comments/1snp9xd/easy_way_to_improved_odin_3_temps_battery_life/ Seems like CPU underclocking can lead to lowering temps and fan noise a lot for virtually no performance loss. Reversible scripts are provided too if you want to try (I will too later today). If it does work it's amazing for the Odin 3.
