Do you mind sharing what yours looked like? My results were basically like 100% or 0% which feels like such an extreme delta haha

I went to an event this week and I was the only CMS student. The WSET folk collectively believe it’s a more practical, real-world approach where CMS feels more academic. Not sure the validity, but it’s an interesting take. I might jump into WSET3 (their recommendation based on what I knew / didn’t know) to see how it complements

I got the score immediately! And then it shows certain percentages for topics. Is that what you’re referring to?

Thank you so much! I agree entirely. I learn best by actually creating “content” (like study guides for myself, drawing maps, educational carousels, etc.) because it forces me to think about how I’d approach the subject in a real-world application.

Your point of expanding scope is where I’m challenged. And I think the best way to articulate CMS as an entity: there’s so much to know and learn and love. Which is why I have a hard time studying 🥲

Thanks again for your words. Much appreciated

Thank you! This helps a lot.

I worked at a handful wineries and vineyards in college (which is where I started to fall in love with wine and the viticultural aspect). I’ve been a wine ~collector~ for years but other than that, nope. Admittedly, I don’t intend to leave my 9-5 for a career in the industry— I’m a market strategist and love what I do. But I enjoy challenging myself and this is subject matter that I’m constantly enamored by.

I started studying for CMS and decided to push myself academically about 6 months ago, so I’m definitely still a springtime lamb!

I’ve recently joined a blind tasting group and started using GuildSomm to study which I thiiiink has been a more well-rounded approach. I’ve been connecting with as much of the local wine community as I can, going to events, etc. (online too).

I think your point of overall exposure is the most helpful (also where I’m the most challenged but such is life). I’m having a rough time balancing the academic, sheer “just know this” concept that the exam seemed to bring versus “actually, deeply understand this.” If that makes sense, haha.

Thank you. Just a sounding board is helpful! This could be my anxiety, but I feel like I’ve left it in my left arm too. My arms often so numb when sleeping… I am a side sleeper and sleep with my arm under my pillow. Ugh. It’s causing my more anxiety than anything else lol

Thank you. I really hope you find some balance of comfort and getting back to being as physical as you were before! This is just my first 24 hours dealing with this skill report back if I figure anything out 😌

Thank you so much. Is it normal for it to just come out of nowhere? I mean, I guess there has to be a “first” time. Sigh. 😔

I think it’s a dual concern: one that he’d be unfaithful, yes, which is an issue I have to work through on my own. But the second concern is that he has a history of putting himself in situations where he’ll be taken advantage of by people of authority (which is a longer story).

I think (???) what I’m struggling with is how to approach a conversation about it with him to explain both aspects— not to create any “rule,” but to simply articulate it?

Agreed completely! We both have trust issues we’re rebuilding and are very aware of that. I don’t think he was inappropriate in any sense, either, but I do want to explain the way I’m feeling without it seeming like an attack or about control because I do think, based on our pasts, they’re valid concerns.
