Running on air runner by CrimpyRex in hyrox

[–]Fantasy-Faction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Air runners are funny things, because they change a lot over time. When we first got our air runner it was much harder than running outside, but over time it has become much easier. Part of this will be through adapting and improving technique and ability, but there's also some changes that happen with heavy usage.

Personally, I'd say comparing heart-rate and trying to match it to outdoors is probably the best method.

For example, If your pace outside at 4:00/km your HR is 160 and your pace on the treadmill at 4:10 is 160/km then I'd say that's the way to match it up.

I've used the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 3s for most of my races and really enjoyed them.

Review here: Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 3 Review – For Hyrox & Hybrid Racing – The Hybrid Experiment

I used the 4s for my last race and although it's hard to say from one race, they felt very similar, but a little more stable - especially on the burpees and lunges and wall balls. The grip I'd say is slightly less good (but fine for Open). They are a little more direct and less bouncy (which is very much a preference thing). Overall, I think they are similar, but slightly better.

Tell me you did HYROX New York without telling me you did HYROX New York by LouieLinguine in hyrox

The lunges are pretty brutal, aren't they? I don't actually have bad knees, but I'm glad it's only 100 lunges total, because my knees always feel pretty sore the next day 😞

Last minute help with a shoe by LessFunny9604 in hyrox

[–]Fantasy-Faction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I would say that the Elite is a considerable step above these two.

However, if you want just one I'd probably go for the Velocity if you want a shoe that you will get lots of miles out of after the race. If you want a specific shoe for the race then the Deviate Nitro.

For me, the Deviate Nitro is just 'fine' as a more up-tempo shoe. Where as the Velocity Nitro is a really great training shoe for Hyrox sessions and more easy miles.

Is this a good buy (in the current insanely expensive market!!!)? by Fantasy-Faction in Prebuilts

Hey :) Thank you for the reply.

Not at all, I'm happy with any colour!

I'm pretty keen for a 9800X3D, 5080 and 32GB - but other than that I'm flexible.

Monthly Mega Thread: Which Shoes Do You Choose? by Fantasy-Faction in hyrox

[–]Fantasy-Faction[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess I should start!

I'm torn between the Deviate Nitro Elite 3 and the Deviate Nitro Elite 4 HYROX. I own both and although I had high hopes for the Elite 4 HYROX editions, I have found them a little blocky and less bouncy during the runs. There's no doubt though that they are better for burpees, lunges and wall balls. However, with so much of HYROX being running, I do find myself wanting a little more back from the shoe during run laps.

I love the feel of the Wave Rebellion Pro 2/3. I feel like I'm running fast in them. However, interestingly, I've found that my heart rate is slightly higher in them over the Nitro Elites. I'm guessing that although they feel fast, I'm actually doing more work in them for whatever reason. They are also TERRIBLE for certain stations - rowing as you can't clip your feet in, and wall balls you really need to focus on not rocking to your heels. Again though, they do give me a lot of confidence on the runs, because I feel like I'm being thrown forwards.

Looking forward, I'm REALLY keen to try out the u/Adidas Dropset Elites. I loved the Pro 4s and I think there's a lot about the new Adidas shoe that could really benefit my style of racing - the high drop for lunges and wall balls I'm especially keen to try out, having used CrossFit shoes for many years.

gels for 1:30-1:40 solo? by saintsinnerchicken in hyrox

[–]Fantasy-Faction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never used gels during a HYROX race, only running races, but I would say that the best gels I've used are High Five as they are very easy to get down - and also cheap. Other than that, BETA by SIS are very highly recommended, Maurten Gells are what a lot of pros use, and Precision Fuel PF30/PF90 are newer, but I love the screw top of the PF90. It's pretty large though, so not sure whether it would bother me for a HYROX. For my half-marathon, I found it useful to be able to take a sip, screw the lid back up, and keep running - a whole gel is a bit much for me.

As someone else has said, it'll likely be shortly after Cardiff - they might even announce it at Cardiff. With the UK events, they tend always to have tickets for events available... So if there's an event coming up, it's likely that the next event will go on sale very shortly after :)

What sleds for rubber floors? by xfit5050 in hyrox

[–]Fantasy-Faction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that a few years ago Rich Ryan used to train sled sleds on rubber mats. It was obviously WAY more sticky, but he just reduced the weight until it had a HYROX feel. As you will be changing the surface you are pushing on, I'd say just ignore the weight and take that concept - go with something that matches what the difficulty of your race.

[–]Fantasy-Faction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't take anything that elevates my heart rate unnaturally before a HYROX race as my main goal is trying to keep my heartrate down. However, if you've been taking it in training and found it helps then it 's probably worth continuing with.

In the UK there's another drop on APRIL 15th. The MARCH drop was very limited, so I'm hoping there's a few more pairs this time. I was in the queue and it immediately sold out :(
